Why your tractor won\'t go.

So you put your tractor in gear or you step on the hydro pedal and it either doesn't go, or it acts like it really doesn't want to go and you're sitting there wondering why, here are some possibilities.

Likely reasons checklist:
1) Parking brake is on.
2) The FEL is on the ground (maybe with some down pressure)
3) Your 3pt implement is on the ground.
4) Your tires are frozen to the ground.
5) You're in nutral
6) Your backhoe is hooked on something or you forgot to pull up the stabizers.
7) You've driven over a stump or rock and it's caught on somehthing (probably something fragile).

Other reasons:
1) You forgot to start it.
2) You wish you had a tractor, but you're actually sitting on the ground going "Voom Voom"
3) You ran out of fuel.
4) Your spouse chained up a 47" diameter oak tree to your axel and pad locked it.
5) There's a deep pool of some kind of oil beneath your tractor.
6) It's not your tractor, and you're stepping on the break thinking it's the hydro pedal.
7) That loud bang you heard a moment ago was your two minute warning and your two minutes are up.

Make sure you figure it out before you just use more power.

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

Not that I know who did this, but when someone tried to back my Kubota off the trailer there was still one strap securing the tractor to the front end of the trailer /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Or you have the clutch locked in the depressed postion so you can start it while standing on the ground and forget to unlatch it. John

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

Not that these ever happened to me, of course, but

8) You drove over some branches the wrong way and got one wedged in the linkage from the pedal to the HST.
9) You misjudged the end of the FEL and have it snagged on a tree, fencepost, mailbox, culvert, corner of the house or the rear bumper of the CFO's car.
10) The ROPS really doesn't fit in your garage, or you forgot to fold it down.

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

I've "heard" that it happens to gear-drive tractors also. Especially when you run over a recently pulled stump and it retaliates by jumping up and ripping the hydraulic filter right off the tractor. But it's only a rumor.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

i have heard that it happens when you drive to the farm(many miles) and leave the key for the tractor at home on the table

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

Well, Cliff, since this seems to be a "true confessions" thread, here's one that doesn't involve a tractor but is still on point:

I had conducted what I thought was a thorough ground check on my four seat, single engine aircraft. I got in the cockpit, conducted my usual thorough pre-flight checklist and, everything checking out as satisfactory, I gave it some throttle to start to taxi for takeoff. .....Nothing happened /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, so I gave it a bit more throttle. ...Nothing happened /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifexcept that the engine noise level in the cockpit increased. I was gettin' impatient so I gradually increased to full throttle, assuming that the wheels had perhaps created a slight depression in the ground at my tie-down, which sometimes happens after a rain. ...Nothing happened. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

At this point, it finally occured to me to look outside. My plane, at that time, was a high wing Cessna and I discovered that both wings (and also the tail, as it turned out) were still firmly roped to their tie-down anchors in the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes, I'd been partying a bit, but thought that I was entirely fit to fly. thimk agin...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

Again, not a tractor: Broken u-joint, down in a canyon, a ways from home, full trailer of firewood. Thank god for that spare axle up front!

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

I'm even sorry-er ... I could not resist ... there is only one way to discipline an insolent tractor ... a good dunkin' at the hands/winch of a much older machine /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

It wasn't until I looked at this the second time that I noticed the truck. Either that's a very large toilet, or I think those are not real machines.

Re: Why your tractor won\'t go.

Because the opportune moment has come.
Building brush piles other day and and eased down hill to get a couple logs out of springhead. The logs were heavy and front end sank to axles. Dropped the load and proceeded to crawfish out with fel. I looked down and I'm pushing clutch, but rears are still spinning. Part of the throw out bearing decided to disentegrate. I laid there in the muck, adjusting clutch, singing Kenny Rogers "Lucille".
