Wildfires - smoke

I’m a little east and googled “fire map” Oregon. One of the news outlets has the best interactive map I’ve found. I also looked at the HOAA sat images and it looks like we are sitting between two lows so we are actually pulling from central Washington, Oregon and hit from Northern California.

Pull down the map above and notice the many fires in BC that we don't hear much about.

Bruce - maybe by Wednesday. Geeze - wonder what the difference is between VERY unhealthy and hazardous. Another couple days of this and I'll be just like smoked salmon.

Washington state, where beef is presmoked and cured before going to the butcher.

Oosik, heard on the news last night that the smoke is coming from Washington fires, but the wind over night might help, or it could bring more smoke from Canada. Well, we have more smoke.

We are into skull and crossbones now.

The wind is picking up here but its out of the N & NE which its straight out of Canada. The only way its going to clear here is when the fires are out or if we got a West wind.

Wife just got home from northside Spokane Costco with (2) Winix Plasmawave air purifiers (C535). We already had one, now have 3. I think she said $139. We had planned on getting another one anyway (daughter that lives with us loaned us hers and with smoke, she needs it back in her bedroom). They are only good for 360sqft or so according to manual, but with fine mesh, carbon and HEPA filters, we should be able to handle the smoke that gets into house now, at least for short term. I don't know about longer term, we may go to Pullman area, heard they have clear air (but will it continue with change in winds?)

Changing winds - you bet. Last year I got a new motorcycle - BMWR1200GSA - when you think of BMW its the one with the monster sized gas tank.

Anyhow - last week I couldn't take all this being cooped up - hopped on the bike and down south. Ewan - St John - Endicott - Winona - Benge - Washtucna. Between Benge and Washtucna I ran into smoke so thick I could look in the rear view mirror and see the path I had just cut - joking. So when I hit Washtucna - rather than going on down to Starbuck and making a loop out of the ride - I hightailed it up to Ritzville and on home on I-90. DAM - I hate riding on I-90 - but it IS fast.

Going on the old county road between Benge and Washtucna you enter a large valley - it was full of smoke so thick - I slowed down to 30 and was still frightened. I chocked down about 15 miles of that crap - figured it was enough and turned north and headed back home.

Man - look at that map that WVBill posted - we don't stand a snowballs chance in h e l l, here in Ea WA. My winds here are out of the N and NE - running consistently at 11 to 15mph.

Lots of smoke covering most of Vancouver Island and almost all of BC. We have a few large wildfiers on the Island and some really big ones
in the middle and North parts of BC.
