These doodlebugs, I couldn't find the specifications of their conversion kits online .. Any one have a clue what kinda changes they made ? Did they use a tractor power train ?
They used whatever they had on hand. Usually they had 2 transmissions to get lower gearing, but otherwise what was used differed from machine to machine.

In the UK and Europe there is a range of tractors designed to be agricultural tractors in the field and also serve as prime movers or road tractors pulling trailers carrying livestock or produce on public roads at reasonable road speeds ie 50 mph or more. The JCB Fasttrac is one example, note the front mudguards and full light kits for road use.

JD eg the 6820 frm Germany and Case 270 and NH make european models with similar capability. On a visit to the UK, I was amazed to see so many farm tractors hauling very large trailers on the public roads and a farm truck is almost non-existant. Again note the mudguards or are they fenders on the front wheels and the reversed tread on the front wheels of the Case.

I owned one that had a side mounted sickle bar mower and a 3 point on the back.

It was all Ford Model A running gear circa 1928-31.

It was kind of ingenious the way it was built.. stock Model A motor and transmission with a second transmission bolted to the back of the first one and a Model AA rear end and disc wheels... that thing would creep in low/low and climb a mountain if it had traction.

You have to remember there were over 5 million Model A's made... parts were easy to get and complete cars were cheap.

My Grandfather sold a DLX Model A Rumble Seat Roadster to a guy in 1960 for $95... years later he saw my name and asked if I was any relation to the man he bought his car from... it had just won First Prize at the Napa Silverado Concours...

That $95 car he drove for years was now worth 30k

Is Wiley's Jeep a new company or just a misspelling of Willys, and I thought Willys Overland ended around 1950

Kaiser phased out the Willys Overland name in 1963, and changed it to Kaiser Jeep Corporation.

I own a 1957 Cj-5 with a rear pto and the drawbar, and if you have drawbar pulled implements, I couldn't see why it wouldn't work to pull a plow. traction would be your biggest issue.

Okay from everything Ive read .. A couple of modifications to the wheels and suspension should be able to do the trick (only with a draw bar). Thanks a lot for the info everybody. Really appreciate it. You guys are great :thumbsup:

I have a cj-5 and would like to possibly put a gravel/dirt hopper with a hydraulic lift on it...

would like to be able to move about a yard at a time...anyone ever seen anything like that?

but not a dump bed on a CJ. The early FJ150 appeared to be on a narrow tread CJ chassis, and had a dump conversion.
