Will a BX Plow Snow

I can move 20'' with the rear blade on the BX.

You must be backing up. I could try that next time but I move it quite a ways. I currently fill the bucket and drag along the spill with the blade and it is full also.

I angle the blade and go full throttle in high range in reverse. The front weights helped this tractor (since I don't have a loader) so much for snow removal.

After I broke a chain on my BX's snowblower, I had to remount the FEL so I could get out. Had about 10" of fairly heavy snow. While in the end it worked well, the blower does a much faster, cleaner and easier job. I found that I could only go 1/2 tractor length and the bucket was full. Then turning to dump was not easy, since we already had 30+ inches on the ground. I would climb the snow a bit (as much as I could) to try to dump the snow as far from the work area as possible. I next got to the point in several areas that the dumped snow was getting near the lift limit.

In the end it took me a full day to clear 3 buckets wide on out 8/10 mile driveway. Parts had more room to dump along the way, but due to terrain contour, obstacles and the height of existing snow, I had about 30% where I had to make long runs to dump. Snowblower does a great job and lets you use all of the horsepower available. I can also throw it far enough away that I never run out of a place to send it. If the blower were working for that clearing, it would have taken me under 2 hours.

A lot of people would have struggled to open your driveway with a 50HP tractor.

I am wanting to hear from BX owners on their experiences plowing snow, especially with the FEL bucket. My situation is that I have a BX2360 that I now only use for mowing and an L3240 with FEL and BH.I am thinking of selling the 3240 because I bought it to do work on my property and now the work is done. The only reason I have to keep it is to plow snow which I may do, but it is a lot of money sitting there just to plow my driveway.I have had a BX25 with a front blade and I found it to make quite a mess of my gravel driveway.I also used a walk behind snowblower for a few years and found that too made quite a mess. With the FEL bucket on the 3240 I am able to clear the snow and hardly make any mess which is why I prefer using the FEL bucket even though it is slower.I have about 300 feet of driveway so the little extra time of using the FEL is not a concern.Plowing with the 3240 is almost effortless because of the weight which is just under four tonnes with the loaded tires and me sitting on it.I know the BX will be lighter and slower but I am wondering if it is capable of plowing or will I just be frustrated with it?In order to gear it up I will need a loader valve,FEL,tire chains, and extra lighting which I figure will cost me around 4500 dollars. This is money that has to come from the sale of the 3240 if I sell it.I can use my aerator for rear ballast which I can adjust from about 270 pounds up to about 700 pounds so that is not a concern. This is the my main consideration of whether to sell my 3240,will the BX 2360 be capable of plowing snow with the FEL bucket.I have read conflicting opinions on this so I am curious to hear from actual BX owners on their experiences,I know there are lots of them on here.

The bx will plow mountains of snow, last year I plowed with our bx2370 with only a rear blade on it, found out how light the front end is but that thing plow snow like nothing. It hurt my neck a lot to keep having it cranked backwards but luckily this year we have the FEL to go along with the rear blade. I have plowed with it ice but with not much snow. I will be plowing quite a bit more over the next few days, people are saying somewhere between 5"-10" of snow, so I'm waiting to see how that's gonna turn out. And guys don't forget to use diesel 911 in the bx it will save you!

The BX25 will PLOW snow! The only limitation is the bucket width.

I've seen a lot of guys on here that seem to prefer the 'teaspoon' method (pick up a bucket, move it, come back and do it again) and that takes an unacceptable amount of time.

Gravel drive - put the bucket down in float, lift the cutting edge up and inch or so, and push. Drive off every now and again and start over.

There are six houses in my neighborhood and I push them all in a few hours, 2 with gravel drives, most of them about 100 feet, some a bit more. I don't live in Northern Alaska mind you, but have pushed the neighborhood in Northern Virginia with 12-14" of wet snow on several occasions. I have chains and turf tires.

It does help that I've done this as part of my job years ago. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice!

It would be nice to have the motor grader we used when snow got deep, but a little large in the driveways, the D9 I used sometimes may be a 'wee' bit large as well......but quick!

Good luck, if you get a 25 and practice a bit, you won't regret it.

I'm in the same boat. 400 foot gravel driveway with a hill that gets torn up by regular plows and snow blowers. I've been doing the whole thing (including the "Nemo" blizzard of 2013 that dumped 2 ft in New York...) with my BX 1860 FEL. No chains, no special equipment, just the base mower, turf tires and a ballast box w/ about 350lbs in it. You'd be amazed at how strong that little machine is! Still haven't gotten stuck (knock wood). That said, it takes awhile. You're going to have to work it hard to move lots of snow and you're going to have to keep angling to push and dump as you go. That monster snowstorm in 2013... It took me 3 hours to do the driveway, only to find my neighborhood plow truck broken-down on my un-plowed street because he blew his tranny... So, it'll do it, but it won't be nearly as effortless as you describe w/ the bigger machine. You're going to feel like you got a workout.

hahaha I bet, I never doubt our bx, those things have more power than we think that they do. I love ours especially snow clearing.

I don't like picking the snow up and dumping it either but if you get enough snow, you don't have a choice. I have gotten mine stuck a couple of times but it was my stupidity that did it.

OK, off topic, sue me!

HEY DODGE MAN,
97 Cummins, 175k on the clock, and yes, I treat it like a baby, but still use it.

Tranny went to lunch on me on the way home yesterday, he got me home though! ::weepy:

Just looking for sympathy!
