Just means that they are separate functions vs one & the same. OD is a gear range by itself. Lock-up is just within the TC and 'locks' the outer body(/flywheel/flexplate) to the trans input shaft like a stick-shift's manual clutch would. Computer decides which & when in 'D' or 'OD' but can be over-ridden by operator selecting lower gears on the 'prndl'. btw, TC doesn't slip in 'lock-up' & doesn't generate heat as normal slippage does. I'm sure other guys here know Fords better than I do ...![]()
