Old Grind - I am not following what you mean when you say that OD should be another shift mode and power path through the gear sets vs. just lock-up. Can you explain this for me.

Thanks,
Blane

Todd - That seems to be a good less expensive option. I read somewhere that the OEM cooler is made by Tru-Cool, but who knows if that is true or not. Since Tru-Cool is made in Canada I would say it is as the OEM is stamped as made in Canada too.

I installed an OEM 6.0 PSD 26 row cooler last weekend. My local Ford dealer matched an online price I gave him so it I didn't pay full retail, but it was still a little over twice as much as the one you found. If the one in the picture is the actual cooler, the OEM one I installed is almost twice as tall, which reduces the price sting a little bit. (EDIT: I JUST CHECKED THE DIMENSIONS AND THE DIESEL SITE ONE IS INDEED ABOUT 1/2 THE HEIGHT. IT HAS 13 PLATES VS. 26 ON THE 6.0 VERSION.)

I haven't tested it under a heavy load but driving around yesterday in the 85 degree heat the tranny never got above 150, and that includes climbing the 600 foot hill to my house.

Thanks,
Blane

Looks like you found your solution. I might give the other one noted above a shot for $125. If it helps lower temps by up to 40 degrees as claimed, I should be down into the 170's/180's on the hotter days.

Just means that they are separate functions vs one & the same. OD is a gear range by itself. Lock-up is just within the TC and 'locks' the outer body(/flywheel/flexplate) to the trans input shaft like a stick-shift's manual clutch would. Computer decides which & when in 'D' or 'OD' but can be over-ridden by operator selecting lower gears on the 'prndl'. btw, TC doesn't slip in 'lock-up' & doesn't generate heat as normal slippage does. I'm sure other guys here know Fords better than I do ...

... the E4OD will only lock the TC in 3rd and OD...

Just ordered the Tru Cool Max. For the money I thought I'd give it a shot. Will report back someday when it's installed if this thread isn't buried 15 pages deep.

what he said. 1-2-D-OD. the TC will lock in D and OD, some people think it is the trans shifting again. when the TC locks RPMs will drop slightly. the TC lock up mod will lock the TC when you want it to.

Got it. Thanks.

Installed the Tru Cool Max this morning. Here's a little side by side comparison of the stock cooler and the new one:

Yea, let's hook that one up!
