Hello all -
I've been following this thread with some interest. There are definitely some beautiful areas in MI, as I've had the good fortune of flying over virtually the entire coastline (and interior) of MI for 8 years, while serving as a USCG helicopter pilot. I've also had numerous experiences with Ice fishing.....and while I'm sure there are safe ways to fish and have fun on the ice, unfortunately my routine involvement occasionally didn't have a happy ending. I wish I had pics to share, but as one member said, there are hundred of vehicles on the ice at a time...I've seen that in Lake St. Clair and Saginaw Bay, definitely an amazing sight. Also amazing is to fly over Lake Erie when it was completely frozen over....with mounds of shifting ice piled up 20-30 feet high! Inversely, I've also seen many vehicles/4wheelers/snowmobiles on the bottom of lakes....Anyways, my experiences have scared me enough to not go ice fishing....unless I can absolutely guarantee my safety....which is hard to do.
Back to the MI winter, I love it! I finally got to use my small SCUT to blade some snow, what fun! However, just closed on some property in Ohio, so eventually will be able to use the compacts to do some serious work....as opposed to sitting in the garage. Guess I'll have to be nice to LBROWN59, as I'll be his neighbor!
Definitely enjoy this forum....lots of good info and some great folks contributing. I'll work on equipment pics/profile....never enough time in a day....
And for all you ice lovers......think ahead and be safe!!!!!
