I have a 1990 Ford 7710 series ll. I have replaced the alternator and battery still not charging. I noticed that the previous owner unplugged or did something to the safety switch. Could this be the reason the tractor is not charging? If not, what else can I look for.

The first thing I would do is ask a moderator to move this to the "Parts&Repairs" section. Parts/Repairs
Is it an alternator or a generator? The former needs a slight electrical feed from the battery in order to work. It also may be a defective part. Have you checked the output to see if it is putting out any power?

Is there a good connection between alternator and battery, no broken/corroded wiring. blow fuse, etc. What is output voltage of the alternator at speed (not just idle) does voltage show at the battery. Should be above 13.5 when not at idle.

Have you checked the wiring to be sure it's got a good connection? Both the power lead and the ground wire? Cheap enough to replace these wires and clean the connection to be 100% sure that's no the root issue...

Sounds to me like corroded connections. Easy to tell if any alternator is charging by feeling the case when operating. If it's warm, it's charging. If it's cold, it's not.

What safety switch? Most charging systems don't have a safety switch. Is it a Motorola alternator with an external regulator? (little square tin box with a four wire harness plug)
Is there a battery temp sensor under the battery tray?
