So I have been following this form for a month or so and I want to say very cool stuff you guys.. everyone seems to genuinely want to help and not criticize to much ... so I have been building my own log splitter for about a year now . I am getting close to trying it out maybe next month. So I thought I would post up a few pics of various stages of my build. Yes it is a bit over kill , but I have bought 2 factory units and destroyed them both in 3 years .so I only want to do this once.

That woodsplitter is looking pretty impressive, and your workmanship looks to be topnotch! You should be able to do some serious splitting with that one. I think I would have to put a bigger/better muffler on it though, that engine might be deafening after a few minutes. A short video of the machine in action would be awesome after you get it going.

I should probably say that its built from mostly items that people where discarding. So I would get a item and then build around it.
The motor is a Ford 2.0 that had a hole burned in the # 4 piston.
The axles are Ford 7.5 's
The pump is old but never been used from a forklift repair shop i got one and they gave me a second still In boxes .
I built the hyd/gasoline tank my first one. Psi checked it ( I hope it doesn't leak )
It has air ride bags from a semi trailer. And air tank.
I am working on the load table and hitch now. Going to add a six way wedge to it ( maybe)

Thanks . I only plan on running the motor @ 2000 rpms and its stock so hopefully its not to loud . I bought that @ a exhaust shop for $14 so if I have to change it out that won't hurt to bad . I looked inside a tractor muffler @ rual king the other day the only difference was theirs had a plug half way up to force air into the glass it was $25 .

I 've always like the timberwolf designed splitters. They seemed to have lots of good ideas, like the box wedge that splits the round in half and then lets you recycle the top half and the auto return and auto stoke valves.

What kind of pressure and GPM's are you getting out of your pump?

Also, what kind of cycle time do you estimate?

I, too, vote for some video once the 'beast' is alive and devouring all of those defenseless wood chunks.

Me too luv the w6 w7 models , but the $ scared me . So being from the farm I said " **** I can build that for nothing , it will be easy " haha its been a learning experience I'll just say that. Mine will have auto return valve back to tank not threw the vale block so return will be very fast , but I am not too crazy bout the detent forward option . I know I would put it in split mode and walk away too get more wood or something .. and that's how stuff gets broke ... so mine will be manual forward detent reverse. I also turn mine around backwards so its stays hooked to the truck , but u can load wood still .

HOOKED TO THE TRUCK ... with the talents you show here build a second unit and add it to the splitter ... like an articulating drivable unit and just drive it to the woods ... have a dump bed on it as well ...

Lol you know a guy stopped by the shop just last week and asked where the steering axle was going to go .. as a joke ... can u imagine going to the bmv and getting plates . Thanks for the compliment...

tell you the truth Idk . Fast I hope . I am having trouble finding info on my pump its a commercial intertec for a hyster forklift its old but in new shape and I have a spare so I hope it works . I am shooting for 2200 psi and 24 gpm . I will definitely have video and pics and a party when its done . It's gotten pushed back a few more days this week as I am doing a large clearing job , but I'll have a lot of large rounds to split .. I am shooting for November 2010 . Working on the wiring harness and a few odds and ends.

Is there anything in the rear end on the axle? Just hook a little hydraulic motor to it and weld the front end of an old beater bike to whichever end is going to be most stable. Add a 2" receiver to the other side and you could easily pull a half cord with it. Shoot, get tricky and build a little clamshell bed hinged on the back that you can fold up to cover the splitter and fold down to haul your spoils. Tack on a cylinder and make it a dumper.

We can come up with plenty of ways to spend your time and money, as long as you keep posting pics.

Wow they are set up to handle the big stuff. That would be cool , but that takes a lot of equipment and man power neither of which I have. I also like to split away from the house and leave the mess there . This is only my 4 season for wood so I am still learning .
