Anyone have a Woods 12' Batwing rotary cutter?

If so, how do you like it? How do you use it?

From what I gather, it's pretty much a light duty shredder.

I will use it behind a 45hp tractor to do smaller, lighter jobs when my 100hp and Woods 180XHD is busy.

Often I have "some" brush even on mostly clear properties. Is the occasional brush a problem?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like I'll have to be the first to review it.. :)

Well it seems like some implements are hardly used, or reviews are hard to write. I'm not sure which is more likely but I've asked for some and got none for some of them. Like you, one has to move forward just the same.

I was just at the WORLD AG EXPO today and had the opportunity to see many manufacturers of implements, and was very impressed with the quality of WOODS implements. There is something to say about a company that has been in business since 1946, and you can see that in the quality they put into their implements. Their reps explained how they have state of the art manufacturing were they hold their implements together with jigs so every implement comes out straight and square before they weld them, and they do extensive testing that smaller companies don't do. I obviously can not give you a review on a batwing cutter, but can tell you I will be buying woods implements from now on. Very impressesd with the quality of woods. Their box blade was so straight and square it put the one I bought to shame.

Catman, yes Woods makes excellent equipment. I bought a Woods BW180XHD extra heavy duty 15' batwing about 3 years ago. I'm convinced. :)
Just thought someone may have used the 12' made for compact tractors some. It sure has the capabilities of covering some ground, versus the 6' shredder on my 45hp now.

After having this rotary cutter for a couple of months, I'm happy to report it actually performs better than I thought it would!

It's not the beast that my Woods 180XHD 15' batwing is, but I don't need it to be.

I get projects that don't have to be heavy duty equipment required.

But, simply, for smaller brush, and mowing large areas, it's turned my 45hp tractor into an entirely different animal.

I was used to my 3 point hitch 6' shredder.

This 12' shredder changes the game and gives a WAY more even, better cut. Looks like a finish mower has been there.

I know it costs more than a single rotor shredder, but the difference is worth it, and then some.

I have one on a JD 4720. Have only mowed firebreaks with it so far. No complaints. Will be mowing CRP soon. Something worth noting is it takes some juice to get them spun up. I used to engage the PTO at idle with an RM90-2 and RM990. I need to throttle up a ways for the BW12. Once running my JD 4720 handles it very well.

Mine does the same thing. Glad you brought that up, because now I know it isn't just me.

My 100hp tractor, and my Woods 15' batwing get rolling easy at 1000 rpm's.

I have to run this one up to 1500 or so to get things rolling with a 45hp tractor. On the good side though, it doesn't just "slam" when you hit the PTO. So, I don't think it's excessively hard on CV & U Joints.

One good thing that I have noticed is that when I encounter thick, tall growth, the low hp seems to hold the rpm's darned good.
