I am thinking of upgrading from my rear blade to a rear mounted snowblower on my BX-22.

Any pros or cons on the Woods Snowblowers?

Any other makes recommended or to stay away from?

Thanks

I would recomend that you spend the money and get a front mount snowblower. I have a quick hitch and snowblower on my B2320 and it is the slickest setup ever. It is very easy to use and a great deal of fun. You may have a hard time getting a blower from Kubota right now, but in my opinion it would be worth the wait.

I have a rear mount so take what I say with that in mind. My opinion is that it depends.

If you consistently get hit with heavy snowfalls, a front mount blower is the way to go. For me in Indy, since we get one or two heavy snowfalls a year and a lot more "smaller" storms, a blower on the back with a pusher on the front works better for me. The pusher (or plow) is going to work a lot better (faster) for cleaning up after smaller snowfall amounts. In the past I have pushed everything into a pile on the drive (when I did not have a spot to push stuff off to the side) and then blew it off with the blower.

So for me, by all means drop the cash for the better front blower setup if you are going to be doing a lot of it, but the rear mount gets the job done a lot cheaper (albeit with a stiff neck!)

Ihave a rear mount 54 pronovost and i love it.Ihave areas between buildings and under the eves where the snow comes off the house ,that can only be bucketed,i did not want to give up the loader.Ialso carry my wood to the house with the loader. ANother thing with the rear mount,if you upgrade to a larger tractor you can keep your blower, some of the front ones are model specefic i believe.
Your 22 is just like my 23.sit on the seat sideways ,steer with your left hand ,and you wont be cranking your neck around.
If you read TBN alot youll see METEORS are having some gearboxs breaking, for who knows for sure why,Id avoid that one in my opinion.
Get one wider than your footprint. The 22,and 23 is like 48 inches wide ,I easily run a 54 with NO ISSUES.

Yea Escavader,

I have 450' of driveway ,

I do not mind going backwards because I use my front bucket for everything, moving wood from the pile to the front porch, I also have a hitch ball mounted in my bucket for moving my log splitter , chipper around the yard , trailer etc... i am always driving in reverse. Not a big deal for me.

I would not give up my loader for a front mount snow blower.

That being said, what other brands are recommended. I will buy after this season.

The rear blade is great for small amounts of snow but is not efficient on larger snowfall amounts.

Thanks guys

12 pack,
Im sure any thing by woods is good.Up here PRONOVOST ,Blizzards, and MEteors[if new buyer beware] are the most heard of.Im sure you could handle the 60 inch ,but for weight purposes id keep it down a bit. When i did my research snowblowers varied a bit Meteors offered a 60,52[not sureon that one],48 Pronovost offered the 54 which is about 3 inches wider than the tread pattern, each side.
You will have to decide on what you want to turn your chute, handcrank is usually standard, mine is hydraulic, which runs off the inlet/outlet where our back hoes plug in.Ihave a cab so i didnt want a hand crank.

I will look into the other brands mentioned, thanks.

Hand crank would be just fine I think? I do not have the cab. The cab must be nice when its nasty out.

I'll start checking on dealers and brands , get some prices , then start looking around the end of winter to buy.

Maybe a used one will pop up on the classified section.

Thanks

12pack,
Either will work fine and do the job very well. Just from my point of view, the front is the best if you can do without the FEL. It throws snow much farther then the rear mounted, 540 RPM PTO vs. 2000 or better RPM's. I have used both on different tractors, but I still like facing forward when blowing snow. You'll make your own choise and it will work fine.

I use the front loader everyday just about. A front mounted blower would not be practical for me

12pack: I'm thinking along the same lines as you. I've browsing the threads and am going to look at 2 blowers. The Puma 54" (or Provonost PRONOVOST-PUMA SNOWBLOWERS) from what I've read this seems to be one of the best built. I'm also going to consider an AgroTrend blower (Agrotrend Mfg - Clifford, Ontario). These guys are close to me and I haven't seem to find many people saying anything bad about their product. Meteor is also very close to me, but the recent threads have me a bit nervous. I suppose I'll also consider the Kubota, but I think I'd like to get the best quality I can afford - so I'm hoping the Puma. I'm going to price them all out and see where it goes from there. If I was thinking I would've done this with the 0% financing when I bought my BX25.

Looking at the Woods blowers right now. The one concern I see is with the weight. This site says the 52" is 675lbs!! Either that is a misprint or the Woods couldn't be considered for me as I believe that is well beyond the recommend weight of a blower for the BX25 (http://www.woodsequipment.com/snowblowerdetail.aspx?id=9603&ekmensel=41a6502d_213_215_9603_1)
