I have been researching what might be the best stump grinder for my Kubota L3430 tractor. I looked at the Dougherty Turbo Saw but am concerned about only cutting the stumps off at ground level and being limited to 10" and smaller stumps. I am now interested in the Woods TSG50 Stump Grinder (check this link Woods Equipment Company - 15-50 PTO HP Stump Grinder - Model TSG50
Does anyone have any experience with product? Does anyone have general knowledge about 3pt stump grinders that could give an opinion on this product? I can get one for $3450 FOB local dealer. It looks like it could be a good match for my tractor.

All insights will be appreciated.

Don't know much about them. A friend has one on a bigger new holland that does pretty well. Needed new teeth at that. How many stumps do you have and what kind of bids to get them removed. He had a bid of 350 to do his stumps ( a bargain) but got the stump grinder in a package deal (a good deal in it self). Not the easiest job but doable.

i have a tsg50 for my bx24. used it today as a matter of fact. i must have done 100 stumps. what a piece of equiptment it is. its rock solid built. in the year i have owned it i have done maybe 250 stumps 3"-20" with an average right around the 6-8" range. i always take them about 6" below the surface and after all that it has barely worn the paint off the teeth on the wheel. it comes with a 20" sandvik wheel btw. my bx only has 17 pto hp and it still rips right through them so your tractor would be more than enough. personally i think the 3pt grinders are the way to go. if i was side by side with a big vermeer or something like that, it might end up grinding the stump slightly faster but by the time you moved that machine over to the next one i would be half done stump #2 already. only thing i can say is it gets a bit bouncy when cutting but someone i know that has used the big machines says it does the same thing. i guess thats somewhat normal. doesn't really affect anything. i wont come with the hydraulics done, obviously but i think woods has an optional kit. i just ordered everything i needed from sirplus center and did it all myself.

hey i dont have an actual list of what i ordered. i didn't keep that info. i can tell you i got a prince 2 spool valve assy with the power beyond sleeve. elbow fittings for the cylinders, all the hoses and reducing bushing. basically all the plumbing. also needed a few quick disconnects. instead of mounting the valve assy to my tractor as a rear remote i welded a mounting plate to the frame of the grinder and mounted the valve to it which puts it just under chest height with it dropped down on the ground for use. i just did the hyd as part of the grinder rather than the tractor. here is a good pic of it in action. this particular stump, at ground level, was about 24". i took it from 8" above ground to 4" below in under 5 minutes with only a bx24 for power.

i relly dont know. most stump grinders are quite expensive. most around $5g so i assume its around there somewhere. i got this one brand new from a dealer that didn't sell it on ebay and i think he was going under so he unloaded it for, according to him, less than what his cost was. i managed to pick it up for $2400.
