Thanks for the replies! Foggy, I am using it on mostly soft wood stumps from 6" to about 20". I have around 100 stumps a few of them are larger oak stumps. My plan is use the grinder for year or two and sell it when i,m done. I don't expect this grinder to set any speed records but I am expecting it to be much
better than a hand/walk behind one.

Thanks, Dave.

As mentioned above, I'm also considering this attachment. I'm now wondering if my rear hydraulics are able to run this. See photo. I have a JD4105 with what I believe is a single line for rear attachments. I have have only used hydraulics up front on my loader, where I have triple functionality. Your help is appreciated.

You need 2 rear remotes (4 hoses) two for up/down, 2 for right/left.

There are a few different ways to run the grinder.....including using a single set of remotes.

1. I run my grinder using my tractors joystick valve to control the elevation and sweep cylinders. Very intuitive operation with this valve....and it's placed fairly well for operation. This can negate the use of your loader tho (unless you operate the loader as I do....via the remotes and scv valve when using my stump grinder.)

2. You can connect your remotes to a second valve which has two means of controlling the hydraulic flow (splitter valve, also called multiplier and other things), Woods offers this set-up right from the factory.

3. Install a second set of remotes.....or us an electric actuated valve to split your loader hydraulics to provide a second set of remotes.

The first alternative is the cheapest and was the method I selected. With 20/20 hindsight I think the second version above may be my current choice.

Likely a good plan. I think for the few stumps your talking about you should get along quite well. The smaller stumps will not take you very long to grind out. Maybe just minutes. The larger hardwood stumps may take some time, but I'm sure you can do them in an hour or so.

Many of us grinder users have commented on how long it takes to grind a HIGH stump. Really adds to the job. Cutting the stump to a few inches above ground via a chainsaw really helps the operation.

One thing to note.....with only 100 stumps to grind.....I may just go the rental store to get their grinder. When I rented a 25 hp self propelled grinder.....I could take out about 200 stumps per day (all pine and sheared low). If available in your area, this may be a good alternative to buying a machine. Cost?....less than $200 / day including gas.

The rental grinders I used were Rayco and Vermeer brands and are not the typical "walkie" type. (The walkies are good for a stump or two....and then you are shot for the rest of the day.)

Having said the above, using a PTO grinder for a year or two and then selling it certainly makes sense too. I think there is a high demand for a good used grinder. I know I searched high and low....and could not find one. I like having my grinder available on MY schedule and knowing the condition it is in when I want to use it. The rental equipment can be a huge variable.

We will patiently await pics..... and better yet, action pics.

P.S. Some time ago we had a member here running one on a Kubota BX, so I think you'll do fine as long as you pace yourself.

I have run a similar unit on the back of a Massey 1230 and a NH TC33D, both have 2 circuits on the back of the tractor. My first concern is the weight and keeping your front end on the ground. Neither of these tractors have a front end loader and become very light with the unit lifted. Most of the stumps have been oak, maple, hickory and elm. It takes a while, sometimes near 45 minutes as metioned above. With your hp it will be real easy to kill the tractor. Break in the slip clutch as described in the manual and take it slow. And welcome to TBN.

Pictures!!! When I picked it up I was very happy to see it has the control valve. With only one output on my tractor how can I use the control valve?

What do you mean by 'one output' ? Got a pic?

Are you saying you have a remote valve, or power beyond loop for a backhoe?
