Is your tractor an open center hyd system, or closed center hyd system.

The stump grinder and the tractor system should be the same.

Open center hyd system:

The IN port of the stump grinder should have a relief valve close by, and set to protect the stump grinder.

You need a supply hose or pressure hose to the IN port of the stump grinder valve. The return or tank hose should go to tank or if you need the 3pt, the return hose goes to the 3pt.

If not using the stump grinder, connect the FEL PB hose to the input for the 3pt.

I think this is the valve.

All the instructions that Ductape has been giving (100% accurate by the way) you is for a regular spool valve.

What you have is called a "manual diverter" valve. It would be used if you already had one remote on your tractor (which you do not) and then you could select either the swing or up/down cylinder to operate when you use your remote.

This is a dealer issue I think, he should have inquired a little more on how you where going to set this up since they are available from Woods in different configurations.

Basically, you need a new valve like this: Surplus Center - 2 SPOOL 8 GPM PRINCE MB21BB5C1 DA VALVE and plumb it in exactly as Ductape told you. The diverter you have is useless to you in this configuration.

Thanks kennyd for the info. I got the stump grinder used and was not planing on using the valve. Well I gave it a try.

Thanks, Dave.

My apologies........ I'm completely surprised it is a diverter valve. That is the last way I would ever have that set up. If it were me, I'd get a normal two spool valve (like Ken mentioned) and keep the power beyond loop to the back of the tractor, as it can be used with other attachments down the road.

The other option, would be to remove the hoses from your curl function (or up and down function) and run a set of hoses to the rear of the tractor and use the left / right (up / down) on your joystick (along with the manual diverter valve) to control the SG. Not how I would do it, but a possibility nonetheless. Using your loader for anything would require swapping the hoses back around when the grinder is on the back though.

Your welcome Dave:thumbsup:

One other option is to check with NH and see what a factory remote kit will cost and then use the diverter you have, might be cheaper.

Hmmmmm. I have a set of rear remotes....and have considered "upgrading" my set-up so I do not lose part of my loader function when I put the grinder on. :D Currently I use the loaders joy-stick valve to operate my grinder.

How does that valve select which cylinder will operate? More or less a push pull on the spool? (If it requires a seperate lever function....it would seem it could be too time consuming for a tyro like me?)

If it would operate fast enough and you require a different valve.....I may be a customer for your currrent valve. (or perhaps another TSG owner may have an interest)

It has one input and two outputs, and it can select only one output at a time. It cannot control a cylinder by itself since it is not a "valve" per say...

It is just like this: https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=9-6134&catname=hydraulic

What he needs is a valve to control the flow, and that would logically be the FEL curl circuit.

The valve installed on the stump grinder is a selector valve for the two cyl, using one at a time. no neutral.

The FEL control will control the extend and retract.

He only needs two hoses from the curl circuit to the back, that's all.

You don't need to mess with the PB or 3pt.

1/4 in hose would work for this application.
