"am getting the old Barney Fife, sawdust in the tranny fix just to get me to accept the tractor back??"<<<<That's one of my favorite episodes, the best shows were the ones with Barney and Gomer together.
I was beginning to think that the NH WorkMaster was immuned to problems, haven't noticed them posted or complained about til this one and sounds like you have a doozy, cant believe you haven't demanded another tractor by now, I'd be foaming at the bit after all this crap, good luck.

Thanks, I am really trying to keep my composure with this situation. I am only human though.........and yes i like Andy Barney and Gomer too...

Ok - so I wrote this:

That's a fair offer from the dealer. Sounds like he is certainly trying. I personally would not be terribly concerned about all the parts changing. Unless there are leaks or problems within those 20 hours, I would expect the tractor to perform like a tractor that never had the issue.

The key word here is -unless-.

Since you are again having problems, I think I'd cut my losses. Either the factory made one that can't be fixed OR the mechanics working on it can't be trusted. Either way, you've endured enough heartache.

If you can work it out with the dealer, trade for another machine. Your out of pocket should be the delta in OTD prices between the machines. You should see no depreciation hit.

Thanks bspeedy, You made me chuckle at your post. Yes you did write it, and honestly i was hoping so bad that the tractor was fixed. I am still mulling the situation over. I was supposed to call the dealer/owner today but just wasn't sure how to proceed. You see, i am having trouble spending any more money on any trade, Just cannot get over it so far!

I really do wish i was wrong but i really do think the tractor had a defect from the start that the mechanics were unable to diagnose and fix. So they done what every good employee would do for the owner/dealer after about 3 or 4 tries They played with it just as the service manager said. And u know what they figured out.....that if they screwed with the draft or eliminated the draft control whatever was causing the jerking would stop because of some defect they were bypassing. ...Now i do not know this for sure but the last time they called and told me the tractor was fixed was late after hours...I have been asking myself why so late? how come the fix was so easy? and if they could just adjust the draft sensitivity why did new holland rep., tech assistance, and any of the mechanics in the shop not know this from the start? and they would be in working the next day and have time to deal with it then....

My deduction is they did not want anyone to see what they were trying to pull over on me...i e the sawdust they put in the tranny! lol......as there are customers and owners in the shop all throughout the day checking on their equipment. Either way they should have checked to see if they messed something else up trying to shoot in the dark and hit a bullseye, blindfolded.........

Hate to say it but i am leaning very hard at either asking for an even trade on a new 50 or just offering to take a small hit and get a refund........?????

I'd get out of that tractor (and dealership) if I could. Trying and succeeding are two different things. It's nice that they are trying, but that isn't getting it.

Good luck.

From the tone of your posts, I think you can be both polite and firm with them. That is what is required now.

Yeah I think I would want out of the situation. Dealer and tractor. The offer to give you your $ back if you buy another tractor from them. The problem is that you have little confidence in the dealer service department now. Even if the new tractor is the best one the NH has ever built it will have a problem at some point. You need to have faith in the dealer that whatever small problem crops up they can fix. I wouldn't have that confidence in your particular dealer now.

I also agree with your opinion Dave M7040, and have had a day or so to think about the safety issue Possibility. I am not new to machinery, Heck i basically grew up around and operating tractors, trucks and have done factory work in and around large machinery for many long hours. BUT One of the things in the back of my mind with this is, There isn't a warranty in the world gonna help me if i'm in the middle of a field and the three point malfunction and drop a 1500lb disk or plow on my leg or foot while i am adjusting the linkage in the rear.....?:2cents:

Also, Ref to the paint on the bolts...they said they would send my unit through the paint department before they would let it come back...just to touch up a few scratches they put on it while working on/around it. So Be aware of that too.

Not trying to be a pest here but if you are under a 3pt attachment raised in the air and are not using a mechanical lock or jack stand it would be 100% your fault if it fell on you imao. Relying on hyd's to keep you safe is not an acceptable practice if you wish to keep all limbs and life intact on any tractor.

I would see it a little different and think the dealer is probably OK because the owner is OK. Swap for a different model 50 or maybe trade up. The odds of something going wrong are pretty low anyway and you're a hands on guy to keep an eye on things. You know what you have with that dealer and can handle it; not so with a name out of the phone book or really any dealer referred to you. That's just my opinion and I've bought a lot of tractors.

Everybody has something wrong with them, it's whether you can live with it or not.

Ok, Morrisonsteel, I agree with you 100% BUT, I never said i was crawling under it. Just trying to make my point of things i was thinking of safety wise.

Also just a question how do you adjust your 3 pt link arms to level your equipment? do you carry a jack stand in the field with you? Or do you just get off... go to right rear of tractor... step in near right tire.. get hold of the leveling assembly and twist it up or down? or am i doing this wrong too.... because if you do it my way i also bet you have to raise and lower the 3 pt to take weight on or off it to get to adjust right.......Depending on the equipment anyway.

New Holland and other brands should have kept the old style leveling assembly, that way you could have made this adjustment from the seat.....If you remember those....

Thank you for the safety post and opinion

Thanks sixdogs

UPDATE spoke with dealer today. he not to warm on the idea of just trading for another 50. and wants to bring the tractor back in the shop to assess the situation and look at what has been done with his mechanics. Also i contacted New Holland customer service again....Unsure how good that has done me either. the guy on the phone is just that, a well trained customer service phone operator.

No worries nwut, I did not get the impression you where putting yourself in harms way and I understand where your are coming from. We all do things because it was handy not because it was safe right up until that one time...then it doesn't matter anymore. And yes if needed I will have a jack or a stand with me, but that is just me, and is guided by 30 years of seeing some of the most unnecessary and tragic events unfold in the farming community all done in the name of time and convenience imao. I have zero trust in anything hydraulic holding itself above me so for me this would not be a safety issue as I simply would not put myself in that position. Best of luck though on the tractor dillema...
