Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Todd your reply:

There exists a radical group of terrorists spread throughout the world, who believe it is their duty to kill Americans. They believe their G-d wants them to and that it is an honor to die doing this, because America's political stance has supported or directly taken military actions against their home lands.
Because of this, if the United States goes and kills a whole lot of people in their countries, they won't believe those innocents were martyrs and should be avenged. Instead, they'll stop their actions against the United States, because they'll be scared more people will die. After all, they've already shown how scared they are to die.

My reply:

All I have to say is that it sure as hell worked with the Japanese. There haven't been any kamakazi attacks on our ships for about 60 years now.

<font color=blue>You do not arrest and prosecute people for killing 5000+!
</font color=blue>

Hmmm...seems to me that they arrested, prosecuted, and executed a good number of people for their involvement in the killing of over 6 million jews. Sounds like a pretty good solution to me.

And please don't get me wrong. I completely, wholeheartedly subscribe to a military attack on the specific group of people behind the attack. I just can not agree to anything that starts with "Lets make a parking lot out of..." whatever country.

Only after they bombed the country into oblivion...the only ones arrested and tried and the ones still alive after the bombing stopped. A similar approach is warranted here.

ejb,
The country was bombed "into oblivion" to disrupt their military operations, food supplies, manufacturing capabilities etc. Can't be done here. Bombing the Boeing plants or our own airports is clearly not what you're advocating, but those were the weapons open to bombing. The human part of the equations is different. Unless we get specific intelligence suggesting the location of a guilty party, "bombing" doesn't make sense. You can't target Moslems because a group of them is evil. Sorry. Todd

Ps) Fuzzmental, you are right, appologies if I grouped you with those posters advocating a nuclear attack. It is the "parking lot" approach that I find offensive and silly.

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Yes Richard, but we were at war with Japan then. And when Japan surrendered, the attacks stopped. And much as I'd like to say they were dishonorable opponents, I can't. Even Pearl Harbor is an odd one. We sank one of their vessels the morning before the attack. I'm guessing they would have attacked even if we hadn't, because we would have gotten into that war eventually anyway. Still, it's not a country that we are at war with at the moment. It's terrorists.

Terrorism is like a stone in a pond, ripples moving outward. A small group of ideologists (sic?) kill innocents here and others elsewhere will die because of their actions, none the less they are innocent just like those in the WTC. I expect my government to take appropriate actions including the use of force in the extreme but I also expect them to be responsible in regard to innocent lives.

A friend taught at the Cairo/American University for 10 years and he was always appalled at how the media portrayed
Muslims. Get 10 idiots together to chant anti-American slogans and the media tells the world the whole country hates the US.

<font color=blue>i don't see to many 9 year old american kids, brandishing auto weapons, chanting death to the great satan</font color=blue>

Watch the news sometimes, I've seen Klan Kids and White Supremists kids banishing weapons calling for the death of every black, Jew, Catholic or anyone else their parents have told them is responsible for their lot in life.

Should we respond? Yes. Should we respond in force? Yes. Should we kill everyone who has a Arab sounding name or lives in an Arab country? No, we should stand up as the leader of the free world and respond responsibly protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Richard,

I couldn't agree with you more. The bottom line is this was easy for them to do. They had years of planning and we even provided flight training for them. It was a very simple and economical way of showing other groups how easy a target we are. Simply put, those involved must be found and eliminated. Those providing assistance must be found and eliminated. Next time it could be bio or chemical weapons.

Everyone else (other countries/nations) always look to us to see what we are going to do, someone needs to be 'In charge'. I say we take charge. Yes, life will be different, It always is. Our lives now are different from the lives of our nations forefathers, and our grandchildren's lives will be different from ours.

The whole idea here is to make sure our grandchildren can grow up in a free and safe nation.

Steve

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

No you're right Todd we are not at war right now with a specific country but it's coming. No I also wouldn't advocate just bombing countries we had not declared war on. These countries have been warned though that if the terrorists are there and they are harboring these terrorists they will also be held accountable. There are thousands of people leaving these countries because they know what is going on. They are not leaving because noone is there. I think what is going to happen is that we will identify where these people are and they will be bombed followed by a massive ground invasion. You wouldn't see the vast call-ups from the reserves if this weren't so. They are also saying that they can be called up for two years. They wouldn't be saying and doing those things if all that was planned was an aerial attack. Yes innocents are going to be killed, hell they already have. But if Bush is as true to his word as he says he is and Powell and the Generals from what they've been saying by the time this is done most of these terrorists will not be around anymore and they are already preparing for a war that may last years.

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

<font color=blue>cut off all communication. Internet, satellite, phone, all of it to that country</font color=blue>

I read this morning that as a fundamentalist Islamic country, the Taliban in Afganistan forbids TV and listening to foreign radio is severly discouraged. Most of the Taliban clerics can't read or write and the leader of the Taliban has only met 2 non-Muslims in his life. Of course these restriction apply to the populace not to the ruling powers or bin Laden.
