Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Seems like the Afganies probably know about as much about us as a parking lot does. Very sad. Maybe future events will change that.

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Sorry, but cutting off all communications to a country would rob us of vital intelligence links into the target countries.

Embargo's may be useful.

Military strikes - most useful. It is the only think that those bastards understand. Otherwise, we appear weak.

Ohh, the near future will not be pleasant. Let us just hope that we can get to the source of the problem quickly and effectively. I see no other way.

The USAAC used daylight bombing to acheive "precision" bombing to maximize military damage and to reduce civilian (innocent) deaths. The British switched to night time bombing due to losses and to retaliate for the targeting of civilians by the Germans.

The belief that the resolve of the people can be broken by bombing is false. The British fought back even harder, as did the Germans and the Japanese surrendered because their Emperor told them to, not because we dropped the bomb. Even in Desert Storm, Stormin' Norman told us an air canpaign alone could not acheive victory. The resolve of these terror groups will deepen with each action we take, more innocent lives will be lost here in the States, THATS a reality of war we must prepare for too.

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Education is one of the 'Seven Pillars' of Islam. The Koran is written in Arabic - and it would be unimaginable for a Moslem cleric to not be able to read this - they are religious leaders after all. Some have the whole book committed to memory. In addition, the local language is Dari - which I am sure they are also fluent in.

Re: Kelvin--Know this

Kelvin,

To your post.....If I happen to go for a long period of time without contributing to this board, I think you'll understand.

Yeah we will understand and will be supporting your duties. Be safe and don't talk negative because you may be gone for a bit but you WILL be back.

God Bless America

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

I have stayed out of this post because I just don't know what we should do. I believe the most important thing we can do is rally around our leaders and show solidarity. I belive President Bush and his advisors are in the best position to do so. He is now speaking of a "long" war including use of ground troops. I think this means that we will go in and occupy those countries that allow and promote terrorist activity. I'm sure the gears of war are turning and retributuion will come soon, but any single strike will not solve the problem. We need to occupy and totally control these people. If we have troops there we can see if biological or nuclear weapons are being manufactured. It is obvious that these countries cannot be responsible for their actions. They are kind of like kids that need constant supervision. It amazes me that we have satellite pictures of bin Lauden's training camps in operation and we didn't go in and stop them. We have the ability to surveil the planet. I think it's time we prove that we are the "super" power and go in and stop these irresponsible individuals and stay to make sure it never happens again.

Sure that costs lots of money, but if we make colonies out of these countries, perhaps the use of the natural resources will help to offset our costs.

Take the damn oil !!! Make them work for us !!! Control those who need control. We have the strength - let's use it !

Todd,

I have mixed emotions about all of this (although I don't have mixed convictions - we need to stand for our way of life). I understand why you are criticizing various viewpoints. However, I believe you should confront yourself and share with us the answer to the question - What do you think we SHOULD do. You've told us what you think we shouldn't do. By criticizing other recommended courses of action, we get a clear picture of what you would prefer we DIDN'T do. What you haven't said is what we SHOULD do. Even if one disagrees with other opinions expressed here with regard to actions we should take, one MUST respect them for laying out their position for all to read about (and criticize). I believe you owe it to the group to formulate a course of action that we could take that is consistent with your beliefs. Even pacifism is acceptable, if that is what you believe. I do a fair bit of business travel, and we usually follow a basic rule at dinner time. You can't shoot down the other guy's suggestion of what to have for dinner if you don't have an alternative suggestion of your own.

Re: I ECHO your sentiments!

Good analogy--giving every person on the bus a speeding ticket if the bus speeds.

How many passengers do you think would ride along, fat, dumb, and happy with a speeding driver if that was the case? Or do you think they might take some action to prevent the driver from speeding since they have something at stake, too?

Knight9,
<blockquote><font size=1>In reply to:</font><hr>

And please don't get me wrong. I completely, wholeheartedly subscribe to a military attack on the specific group of people behind the attack. I just can not agree to anything that starts with "Lets make a parking lot out of..." whatever country.

<hr></blockquote>

Pherhaps you and I are not all that far appart on this as I first feared. None of us want to hurt incocent people. However, we can not allow this possibility to prevent the required response.

We must teach these people a leason and saddly, the only possible way to do this is with extreme violence. They will not understand anything else.

Our response must be massive and extreme in order to prevent this from happening again. As others have mentioned we need to turn to our military and let them do their job without political BS.

Did you hear that the taliban leadership has called for his people to prepare for a holy war and has threatend that they will revenge any attacks on them......

We need to explain the concept of force to this %$@ #*&@.
