If pesticides aren't beneficial why are they used so much?

I think you may have misunderstood that... he was suggesting that a machine applying pesticides with no operator would lessen the chances of a human getting exposed to the chemicals.

May we all live long enough that an electric tractor will be used to open our grave.

Nope ... I use my machines far from utility connections.

This isn't gonna happen :stirthepot: ...

Being autonomous and not needing an operator would avoid periods of exposure and hazmat suits.and many osha regs.

Police around here use drones to assist in locating felons on the run or lost hikers and such. A long way from what is proposed as offensive weapons. Electric aircraft carrier? Ha. They were on the right track with nuclear power. Maybe a resurgence of the fabled Flux Capacitor of days gone by. About as possible, LOL

carriers are electric with a nuclear reactor for a battery.... ha. most large ships use some way to produce electricity, and then use it for propulsion in azipods. just like a train locomotive.

I would be in for an electric like the monarch, in a production environment like a vineyard or vegetable crop decoupling the operator from the task is huge. 50k for a 70 hp tractor.. a new deere or kubota is 30 to 40k? so if you assume your hours are worth $50, it will pay back in 200 to 400 hrs of autonomous operation, easily one season. not accounting for increase yield or other benefits of the autonomous operation or lower maintenance cost.

kinda like our Chevy volt. its nearly free to operate, compared to a similar gas car going the same amount of miles. you make up any increase in purchase price with lower operating costs very quickly.

Good points. When it comes to most any type of EV we at first use our emotional brain than our rational brain.

Currently I would say no. A full tank of diesel will outlast me, for a day, on any project I tackle. Come dusk - ride the tractor home - fill up the fuel tank. Should I, for some unknown reason, leave the tractor at the work site and walk home. I can alway take Jerry cans of fuel out with me to refuel on site.

Is there an electric tractor that can work all day ( running chipper ) and that I can ride home on. Not yet, I think.
