I will agree Delvac 1 is good but it is not worth the 95 to $100 for a case. I can get Amsoil series 3000, which is a lot better for the same if not less.

Delvac1 is also Mobil truck and SUV. I would persoanlly not pay over $60 for a case of it, but that is me. Not paying that much for oil with a VI that low and ash in it. Nevermind the high CCS and the normal 4.X HTHS.

Ok, what the heck is "break in oil"? How is it different than regular oil? I know of no other vehicle manufacturer that does this. Big-rig and diesel pickups ship with normal, reccomended oil.

Never used Amsoil. So I called my friend with the trucking company to find out about it. He said, he’s been using Amsoil two stage filter setup and would recommend them but not the oil. He’s seen problems with the oil after testing. Also Amsoil only has an API rating CH-4, delvac -1 has a CI-4 which is the highest API rating. He also said, have you ever noticed that they always compare regular MOBIL 1 with Amsoil, never Delvac -1. Have to go with the man who has to service 8-9 million dollars worth of trucks. Last thing he also said Delvac-1 is rated for 150,000 mile between oil changes with right filter setup. So for about a $1.00 more a Quart you can have a better oil. I think it’s worth that.

Well I am not expert but only been using Amsoil since 1994/1995. Also been oil testing since 1996/1997. The CH and the CI rating is useless unless you have a diesel with EGR. Unless you have a class 8 it is usless rating here and is spearheaded by the EPA or CAFE standards.

Also what problems with the oil here? I bet 100 to 1 it is an engine problem and not an oil. If anything you will see it thinning over time (extended drains) and that is it.

Compared Delvac1 to Amsoil is two different things. The ZDDP, CA, TBN, VI and HTHS are higher in Amsoil. Unless you like lower readings go with Delvac1. Have you see the 2 oils compared???? Big diff here my friend. The Ca in Amsoil for example is over 1,000 ppm more!

Delvac is good but based in un-used oil tesing, it is not the same. Delvac is less and that is a fact.

True with the right filter you can go a long time; but, he does not state the make up oil nor the filter cost. To me the by-pass filter are not worth it unles you drive lots of miles, and I mean a lot (over 50K per year). If not, the filters will cost more then a normal oil change. Been there done that with my old Powerchoke and the numbers did not add up to a profit savings.

Amsoil Amsoil 15w-40 and there Series 3000 are much better then Delvac1 and cheaper.

You have one thing wrong!

You better check you data. For one thing they never make Delvac-1 in 15w -40w only in 5w-40w. The data link your trying to pass off as some big show down between the two oils is not Delvac-1 it’s for DELVAC 1300 15w - 40w a petroleum base oil not synthetic. Delvac 1300 is a good oil but not even close to Delvac -1 synthetic. If you look at the link you posted and data you can see it’s Delvac 1300 not Delvac -1 synthetic.

So what do you know?

Well first off I do not know everything, never have never will nor care too either.

Next is Delvac and Delvac 1 are very close in VI, cSt @ 100ºC, HTHS. Throw in the ZDDP, Ca etc it is not a huge delta here. And this is not a showdown or anything. This topic has been discussed more times then parents going to Disney World.

That beting stated, my post above still holds true here atfer the fact.

Again is Mobil [in general] a good oil, yup, but some of there oils are overpriced for what you get. I can think of better Group4 and 5’s for the same price if not cheaper. And there are some good group3 that will give Delvac1 a good run for it inflated price.

Amsoil Series 3000 to Delvac1 You can every throw in Amsoil 15w-40 HDD&M and will still be above delvac at an even far less cost.

Ca: 40.93.1% more in Amsoil
Zinc: 10.91% more Zn in Amsoil
Ph: 6.83760% more in Amsoil
VI: 16.1% more in Amsoil
HTHS: is N/A since Amsoil is never below 3.9
CCS: 40% better in Amsoil

I am not knocking Mobil here at all. Just stating the #'s and Really both companies are integral to one another. Amsoil buys LOTS of basetock from ExxonMobil.

Is Amsoil the best oil in the world, no. I will say it again (as I have for years here), it is not the best oil blah blah. I feel it is the best benefit for my dollar though. Most people dislike it because they can't find it at every store (aka Walmart) or there marketing. There marketing is no different then others, you need to just look.

I also have friends that own business (sand quarry, GC, Reefer trucks etc) and everyone has there little oil that is the best. So far based on them it is upfront cost, and where they can buy it. Also most do not even test there oil, so it is hard to see the report with nothing to back it up. Other then, "I have used it for years.......". Hmmmm

So actually, the JD2210 manual does not recommend the wrong oil, but states lesser quality, but acceptable, oils in the event you cannot get your hands on the recommended oil. That was the answer to the original post, I think.

What is the number on the cover of your owner's manual? I contacted my dealer bout these postings and he's checking how recent mine is. I bought just over a year ago. On what page does it say this ?
Plus 50 (15w40diesel)is what my dealer recommends but they tell me the plus 4- one of three oils listed in the back of my manual(10w30 automotive oil) is fine in winter.
