Re: Wrong Oil Recommendation in 2210 Owner\'s Manual?

JD Customer Service acknowledged that the oil recommendation in the Owners Manual is wrong, and that the "SG" and "PLUS-4" listings should not be there. Presumably they will be gone in the next printing.

Re: Wrong Oil Recommendation in 2210 Owner\'s Manual?

Thank you Argonne for ferreting out this important information from John Deere.

My workplace's new JD 4115 has the exact same oil recommendation (SG). We also encountered problems because the dimension specs. for this tractor were incorrect in various literature.

What made me scratch my head even more is the oil viscosity graph that shows 15W40 and 10W30 effective down to the same low temperature, and the 5W30 has a higher effective temperature range than the 10W30.

There might be a possibility that the Plus 50 15W40 has an improved low temp. range (maybe someone here with a lot of time will find the Numbers.), but the 5/10 w30 high range should be approximately the same.

So, what WAS their final recommendation regarding viscosity?.

My dealer checked with the JD reps. There have been two editions to the 2210 manual. Mine was printed in October 2002, the second edition revised in 2003... mine lists three oils including plus 4 ... am I to understand the newer manual contains the same oil recommendations? as I understand it, Plus 4 is not the wrong oil in the winter

I didn't get into viscosity with them, only the service classification, but HERE is a link to the FAX (service manual excerpt) that my dealer sent me that goes into all of this, and that JD Customer Service endorsed as being correct.

I have a 3 year old JD Gater, with 200 hours on it. It gets used a lot on short little runs, lots of cold starts. I change oil and filter every 20 hours, only takes 2 quarts for that 23 HP Yanmar. I use Delo 400 CJ-4 in 10W/30. Oil is shiny bright at drain, not horrible dirty looking at all. It's overkill a bit, but the darned thing cost over 11K, and I ain't buying another one in my life, so I'll buy a few extra quarts of oil to make me feel good!! Love Delo.
