Y'all Been Checkin' Lumber Prices?

I am 77 so this is my "retirement" job that I have been doing for 19 years. With the lumber prices sailing sky high, I am now booked into February. I wonder if some day I can retire??

This customer is gonna build a new home and the lumber will remain stickered until it is used, hopefully at least 6 months.

My son called the local lumber yard the other day to order 2 2x12 sixteen ft rough sawed cedar. They told him 400 bucks. he passed on that.

When prices shoot up the incentive is there for alternatives...

Remember when oil went crazy and kind abandoned wells suddenly became profitable...

The last time lumber spiked architects for new developments started using mettle framing.

Of course when copper went through the roof aluminum wire filled the void with problems down the road.

Several I know are looking to small operations on their Washington timber...

Supply/demand issues are ALWAYS cyclical!
There will come a time for lumber prices to decrease!

I just hope things slow down. We've had a crazy year. Busier than ever. I think we're up something like 20% this year over last year.

Typically by now we've slowed down and are stocking the sheds for next year. It's still full tilt like our peak in spring and summer any other year.

For example, I work in the fence panel department. Last year we went into January with something like 50,000 panels surplus inventory. Which dwindles down after a while to almost nothing. Then things slow down and we build again. Right now we're only a few days ahead of shipping. No surplus.

Which gives reason to Woodmizer having around 6-7 months backlog in sawmill deliveries. I'm fixing to mill 12 twenty foot 2x12s. Don't even wanna know the lumber yard price.

How clean are your boards as far as knots, splits, insect bores or similar?
