"a blockage in the block"

Exactly where I was going next, too.........cause I assumed it didn't have a water pump, or he would have mentioned something about checking it before........

they (Jegs) also have those little temp sticks, pieces of wax you can stick on something, when it hits the appropriate temp, the wax melts. If you stuck several of those on various places around the engine, you could see where or if there's a hot or cold spot

Fig,

It should work fine, SAAB is a GM company and they tried the Dexicool for a couple of years. The shout gets all of it out of the system as it doesn't play well with regular coolant. You drain the system and clean water flush it to get as much out as you can and then add a 1/4 cup for every 2 gal of system capacity and run it for 15-20 min. Drain it again and clear water flush it again, drain again and fill with 50-50 mix of regular coolant. They were serious about not mixing the two types of coolant. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

most auto or rad shops also have a tool to check your rad cap for the proper psi release and most cooling systems are a pressure system and do not function well without it .i looked at my cap and there is no spec on it ,ill bet someone on this sight knows what the operating radiator psi should be.dexacool and extended life i would stay away from , they havent turned out to be the great replacment products they were intended to be, just regular anti-freez by far is still the best thing going.

Well, I got the gauge installed last night. The temp light comes on at 215 degrees. I flushed out the block today and the water was again totally clear. The water flowed through the block easily. No, the 1110's don't have a water pump.

Did you replace the sending unit when you installed the gauge? If not, I would try that. Otherwise, I am out of ideas. If all you say is true, it should be working.

/ yanmar 1500 getting hot #46
If I 'am not mistaken the temp light shoud not come on until 234 degrees. 215 is not HOT for that tractor.

/ yanmar 1500 getting hot #47
I'll get a new sender on order.

SailorBob,

That sure is cool. My 1700 will run 190 degrees while finish mowing on level ground and no load. When the tractor is at an angle (right, left) or under load for several seconds; it will usually rise anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees, but usually returns to 190 - 200 when back on level ground.

My 1500D runs around 200-205 under load, mowing and cools off to about 190 or so downhill or just driving it....it goes as high as 210 in the heat of the day....

I put a gallon of some cooling stuff called ice water or something like and about a pint of antifreeze with the balance being distilled water. I can't remember the name of the ice water stuff but, I got it at Advance Auto Parts. I looked for Water Wetter but, could not find it. Maybe that ice water stuff works. Come winter I will have to a a little bit more antifreeze though. We don't have a lot of real cold weather here.

SailorBob,

That is impressive. I used Water Wetter on this last go around, but did not see the results they claim. Maybe I did not use enough, but I have also seen the stuff at AA that you mention. Does it have additive to keep things from rusting?

Didn't I read that you installed gauges on your 1700 too?

Uh...yea. Lots of cold weather. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Fig,

I don't think it has any corrosion preventative. That is why I put the antifreeze in. It has some corresion preventative. Yes I did intall gauges on my 1700. I wish a had a pics of installation. I have to borrow a camera to make pictures . One day I will get around to buying one.

SailorBob,

I know we are getting off the subject, but here is how I did my gauges.

Well I got the sensor today. It's set to come on at 110* C. That converts to 230* F. Looks like we found the problem!

I'm tired of worrying about the correct mixture and then changing it or draining it for winter. While I'm reringing mine I'm putting a new water pump on it. THAT SHOULD MAKE IT RUN COOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!

/ yanmar 1500 getting hot #58
yep, that'll probably do it... but, it all depends. I run 50/50 in my 1601d and it doesn't show any signs of overheating. but, then again, this AM i could see my breath... But, tomorrow it's supposed to be like 100F. Maybe see how the tractor runs then!

I'm looking into the same thing. I made a trip down to my local motorcycle salvage yard and found the perfect pump off of a Honda CBR motor cycle. This pump seems to be pretty popular as they had nearly a dozen of them from different models. They were all identical. The rotation is correct if the pump is driven directly off the crank. It would be reversed if you tried to drive it off a belt. Besides, I'm not sure if the bearings could take the side load of a belt.

Let us know how it goes. I have been running 50/50 in my 1500D with no problems for about 3 years. Put gauges on it this winter and noticed the temp get up to about 215 when the air temp is about 95. I don't think that is a problem, but it might become one at higher air temps and heavier loads. I am now experimenting with a leaner mixture and considering water wetter or something similar.
