No Norm I need to correct you there. The people in SA are totally different from the people in Australia. Totally different backgrounds, totally different descent and totally different cultures. I have been to Australia and they are also good people but they are most definitely different to South Africans. Also they do not have the Boer Nation there. I am an Afrikaans speaking Boer and proud of it.:D

Could be, however my 40 year old Colliers encyclopedia says S. Africa is governed and run by the 20% English speaking white population, of British descent, (same as the settlers of Australia), plus 60% other various Europeans. Of course, I guess they could have all left over the years. By the way, your English ain't too shabby;), nor is Ernie Els' .

Thanks for the compliment. Perhaps you should send the author of your colliers (probably not alive anymore anyway) to come and repeat that statement in the local pub and see how long it takes for him to get seriously hurt!
There are closer parallels between the history of SA and the US than SA and Australia. We were at war with England at two occasions and were the smallest nation in the world to give the British a bloody nose. They could only win the second Anglo-Boer war by resorting to holocaust tactics. People think ****** was the architect. Think again:eek:

Here are the torque specs and the sequence from my shop manual. Please note it is for a YM155 but it may serve as a guide for you. The torque sequence is the same for all the engines covered in the manual.

Hope it helps:)

Hey Spyder,
That's a great help.
Thank you.

I have another question and this may sound stupid.....but all I know is that my tractor is called a....1500. Is that considered a YM155. It's a 2 wheel drive, 2 cyl, 17hp.

Thank you again for all of your help.
I am hoping I can pick up the head on my way home!!!!

Well, since no others have spoken, I'll pass on what I've read, heard, and surmised from previous discussions in the forum.

It is my understanding that the 4 digit models, i.e. YM1500, are models that were built in Japan for the Japanese market and are present here (USA) as a result of the "grey market" in used tractors. They were not intended for sale in the US and are not equipped with all provisions necessary to meet the consumer protection/safety standards for new tractors sold in this country; manuals, placards, etc. are in Kanjii (Japanese) script, controls frequently operate reversed to US custom, no PTO guards, no ROPS, etc. Furthermore, Yanmar's position relative to those tractors imported into the US by 3rd parties (the grey market) is that they, Yanmar, will not support those tractors either with parts or repair from any Yanmar authorized source.

The 3 digit models, i.e. YM155, are models built for US (and other countries?) markets and are built in accordance with the applicable customs and regulations; English markings, manuals, etc. They are not the same as the 4 digit models although I am sure there is a lot of parts commonality between similar models. These models, as I understand it, are supported by Yanmar.

I suspect there is, somewhere, a listing that pairs grey market (4 digit) models with their closest US (3 digit) cousins, but I'm not aware of where one might lay hands on a copy. I don't believe there is any significant correlation between the first two digits of the model numbers. In other words, I don't believe you can count on a YM15XX being similar to a YM15X.

As I said, this is just what I've picked up from discussions in this forum. If I'm wrong on any of it, I hope some better informed person will step up and offer corrections.

No, they don't correlate (3 digit vs 4 digit models) because the 4 digits (greys) tell you the PTO horsepower with the first 2 digits. The 3 digit (made for US market) tell you the engine horsepower. So a 1500 has 15 PTO hp, which is approximately 18 or 19 engine horsepower. A 155 has 15 engine hp, but probably more like 12 PTO hp. To my knowledge, none of the made for US tractors correspond closely with the 1500. The 186/187 correspond closely with the 1510 but I don't think the 1500 and 1510 have much in common other than similar hp. The 1500 seems to be a little bit bigger and heavier than the 1510.
