Figured I'd post an update to my progress so I don't leave this thread unresolved....
I called Fredrichs the other day and without any question they said they had the bracket and it would be about $50. That was a reasonable price to me for having the correct part and since they were just a short drive away I decided this was the way to go. I will say that after going there that I have been to Yanmar Heaven. The number of Yanmar tractors and parts they have there is unreal. Parts racks galore, parking lots of carcasses, beautifully refurbished tractors... they had it all.
So I got that part home, it fit fine and then the next hurdle was to figure out PTO shaft length... I had a few to choose from but I wasn't crazy about modding the one that I had just modded for my spreader. I hooked up the spreader, took measurements and then hooked the tiller up and took measurements. To get the lowered measurements I drove the rear tires up onto wheel ramps so I could get a better measurement.
Lowered...
Raised...
At rest...
This was all done with the overrun clutch removed.... It was just as you guys said, pull the grease fittings, knock out the roll pin with a punch (which came out in pieces), and remove. Easy peazy.
My measurements ended up being in a range from around 17" in a reasonable up position (no real reason to have it spinning when it's fully up) to around 18.5" when in the till position (bottom of the gearbox in line with the tractor tires). If I dropped it super low (remember I'm on ramps) I could get a PTO length of almost 21" but that isn't a real world number. So all that being said, I made some cuts... 16.5" collapsed, 18.5" extended, 2" of travel and still had 1.5" of engagement.
Then it was time to check the oil. I pulled the plug on the bottom of the side of the gearbox and drained it. It wasn't bad but not great. I didn't see a bottom plug. I put oil back in and then took care of the top gearbox.
So the results....
I was very pleased with the test area and am looking forward to getting all the compost worked into the garden soon. It ran smooth and quiet, dug down pretty deep, and smoothed things out nicely. It fluffed the ground up at least 5" over the original grade. Very pleased. Thanks all to helped out here. Hopefully someone can use this thread or picts.
