Yanmar 2210 lift arms too short for tiller

/ Yanmar 2210 lift arms too short for tiller #41
So it looks like the length of the pto shaft should be around 17" with the clutch removed. That is a rough measurement from the grease fitting to the tillers release pin groove on the splines. I have a shaft that's close but will still have to be cut down a few inches. I'll know exactly when i get the bracket and get the clutch off and swing the tiller through its full arc.

Just make sure when swinging the tiller in full arc you make the shaft short enough for the closest distance in that arc. I read a post a long time back of someone hooking up an implement drive shaft, raising it and breaking something as the shaft shortened in the raising arc.

Picture 060.jpg For a YM2000 & RS1400 Tiller.Your need to take the Overun clutch off or shorten it. I had no need for it with a Tiller but put it back on for my BH & FM.

I'm glad I went to the Shed and Found a old Shaft I had to Shorten. This is the ABSOLUTE Shortest I could get this Yanmar PTO Shaft. BTDT!! Gave me the wrong one and I wasn't Waiting any Longer. Another reason I let the Tiller Go. Parts Availablity. None!
And also found the measurements of the Yanmar Tiller Top Link Bracket. I actually shortened the Adj.Top link Section to Try and make the Shortened PTO Shaft work better 2 or 3 " I believe But The Length of the Bracket is what you asked for which is Factory. The Top Link like I stated is Adj. so Different Tractor etc. Different length. Just a good Starting point. CRS> I knew I had it but Couldn't recall were.
Your Welcome....

Thanks for the picts and measurements. It looks like yours is close to 19". I'll definitely have to get parts in hand and the clutch off to get a good measurement but I think one of my shafts will work.

If you have a Greese Fitting Take it out when in use. It will get broken. Heard that alot. Mine has Allen Wrench Caps to replace the Greese Fitting and keep the dirt out. Line up all 4 holes "Inner Sec. and Outter Sec." to get the pin almost all the way out so it will slide off.

Figured I'd post an update to my progress so I don't leave this thread unresolved....

I called Fredrichs the other day and without any question they said they had the bracket and it would be about $50. That was a reasonable price to me for having the correct part and since they were just a short drive away I decided this was the way to go. I will say that after going there that I have been to Yanmar Heaven. The number of Yanmar tractors and parts they have there is unreal. Parts racks galore, parking lots of carcasses, beautifully refurbished tractors... they had it all.

So I got that part home, it fit fine and then the next hurdle was to figure out PTO shaft length... I had a few to choose from but I wasn't crazy about modding the one that I had just modded for my spreader. I hooked up the spreader, took measurements and then hooked the tiller up and took measurements. To get the lowered measurements I drove the rear tires up onto wheel ramps so I could get a better measurement.

Lowered...

Raised...

At rest...

This was all done with the overrun clutch removed.... It was just as you guys said, pull the grease fittings, knock out the roll pin with a punch (which came out in pieces), and remove. Easy peazy.
IMG_20140328_173725_364 (Large).jpg

My measurements ended up being in a range from around 17" in a reasonable up position (no real reason to have it spinning when it's fully up) to around 18.5" when in the till position (bottom of the gearbox in line with the tractor tires). If I dropped it super low (remember I'm on ramps) I could get a PTO length of almost 21" but that isn't a real world number. So all that being said, I made some cuts... 16.5" collapsed, 18.5" extended, 2" of travel and still had 1.5" of engagement.

Then it was time to check the oil. I pulled the plug on the bottom of the side of the gearbox and drained it. It wasn't bad but not great. I didn't see a bottom plug. I put oil back in and then took care of the top gearbox.

So the results....

I was very pleased with the test area and am looking forward to getting all the compost worked into the garden soon. It ran smooth and quiet, dug down pretty deep, and smoothed things out nicely. It fluffed the ground up at least 5" over the original grade. Very pleased. Thanks all to helped out here. Hopefully someone can use this thread or picts.

Glad to hear you got the problem resolved. I agree, If it's your 1 st. visit to Fredricks, it's kinda like WOW !!!:dance1:. A candy store for grown ups.:cool2: If he ain't got the part you need, It's usually gonna be hard to find that part elsewhere

One that needs a bearing on one end. And was shortened to fit a Ym2000 with the old style overrun. The pic. is on the previous thread of mine. What the correct one looks like and then the one I put the Ghetto rig on. And I do have it. Not happy about it but it worked at the time......
