Hello All,

I'm new to the forum world and though I am only 28, I have never found the need for forums... till' now! My wife and I recently purchased our first home and with it came 2 acres. Though I am not new to working land as I grew up on a large cattle ranch that my parents still own and operate, I am looking for something to handle the 2 acres I have. My land is cleared and has only oak trees on it with a small amount of grassed yard needing mowing. I have a 2006 Kubota 45 hp that is used for the farm, but that is about 20 miles away and 45 hp Is not very efficient when it comes to navigating through trees and hedges. Not to mention I don't want to have to transport it every time I am in need of a tractor. I have been looking at several small tractors Kubota B2320, 2620 , LS J2030h and Yanmar 2400. I like the features and comforts of the Yanmar and the smaller size. And though all the above listed models have there downfalls and attributes, I like the black & yellow. My local dealer has quoted me a price of $12,745.00 for a 2013 sc2400- FEL, 4' King Cutter RC, 4' King Cutter BB. Now the only other addition to this is that I do live down a dirt road (3/4 Mile) and do like to keep it smoothed out for the wife. My thought was to get a Land Pride 48" ( 54" overall) Land Plane. But I am unsure if this tractor can handle it, as far as specifications are concerned it falls into range but I have read that these little tractors will spin there wheels if they get to weighted down (as with any tractor). So my inquiry is this: Has anyone used a land plane with this tractor and how does it work? And what other qualities does it have that make it a more valuable asset to your small farm? I do understand that this is an SCUT and that I wont be moving mountains (Well not fast anyways) and for all intensive purposes it will serve my house needs, I am just looking at the care of the road. Also I am sure this might come up but I am trying to stay within the $12,000 to $14,000 range. I know that is not much for a tractor but I have a limited budget at present, and my oak trees are not producing harvest-able $100 bills at this time. I am also looking at this attachment (See Link) as well, I think that it would be of great benefit to me. Any input from owners would also be appreciated (both Sc2400 or the attachment).

CUB CADET TACH-N-GO

The quick attach and the grapple both should run about $1800.00

Thanks in advance-

:welcome: to TBN!

The SC2400 is a great little tractor, I love mine and it does a lot more than it's size indicates. Do you know the weight of the land plane? I think it should be OK, most of the implements fall into the 48" range as the others you've talked about. I doubt the tractor would spin tires anymore than if you loaded up the box blade too much....
What I've done with mine is exchange the R4 tires for R1's....and the improvemnt in traction is signifigant. And, due to the light weight of the machine, it will not tear up your grass. The small tires on the SC with the R4 lugs/bars closely together do not give max traction at all....and I also loaded the rear tires with Rimguard.
BTW - that price seems to be pretty low??!! That's a new machine, with those implements? That's a GREAT deal. Implements aren't cheap.

And....pretty neat quik attach and grapple....first time I've seen that on a SC.

Good luck!

Scoutcub,

Thanks for the info, the plane is 467 lbs so it gives about 200 lbs difference between the max lift. As far as the price I thought it was good too. The dealer is a small town dealer competiting with the big names so they do what they have to. Did you get your R1' s from the dealer? Are they the same size? I figure that front end attachment will be more usefull than a backhoe.

Thanks again-

Well, that's a pretty heavy implement, but 200 below the max lift you should be OK. Just don't remove the loader.
If you're buying from the dealer, I would ask to exchange the tires, they might do it for no cost or a small fee, unless you want both tire types. I know several dealers and shopped around, found an extra set the dealer had. (already had the tractor) Think they're around $900 retail for a complete set.....:confused2:

Yes, they are the same size as the R4's.
Wish you were closer, I have a brand new extra front hitch with power angle 60" blade.....;)

scoutcub and/or others,

Did you install tubes when you added the Rim Guard? I bought my SC about a month ago and want to get the tires filled. My dad swears up and down that I will not be able to get the beads to seal properly if I don't use tubes...

Thanks!

Kevin

Tell your dad that they don't have to un seat the beads to add rim guard and watch his mind get blown! Rim guard is a must on these little tractors when trying to move earth via the three point.

On the three point capacity. I have a 400 lb 48" box blade for my R. When it is packed with another 400 lbs of clay dirt I can't lift it all at once. So the operation is to keep moving forward and "feather" the dirt out.

There is NO WAY I would consider maintaining 1.7 acres (20' X .75mi) of gravel road way with a SCUT. Is the road private, an association, public, or what? I would be using that larger Kubota, or hiring it out. That kind of work would kill your little tractor before it's time.

Good luck!

No, did not install tubes.right into the tires.....great stuff, makes a huge difference.

After comparing the cost of tubes to the cost of repairing and refilling a tire, I chose not to put tubes in. It has made a big difference when using the FEL, but I did notice that the back end tends to slide a little more on the highway bank I mow. Still, very happy with putting Rim Guard in. :)
