I think it was Gallagher that had a monologue about issueing everyone a gun that shot those rubber suction cup darts. Every time you saw someone do something stupid on the highway you stuck one of those to his fender. Anytime a cop saw a car with more then three of the darts attached he would pull him over and give him a ticket for being a jerk.

Onthesauk, Pretty funny. I like it. A friend of mine mentioned something similar with paint balls. Maybe he saw or heard of the Gallagher bit.

Only if brings along George Carlin as vice...

Roundabouts are very popular with DOTs right now, to the point of being a fad. They are very particular about the use of the term "roundabout" or "modern roundabout", to avoid association with the older traffic circles and rotaries.

Modern roundabouts have several specific design requirements, whereas older traffic circles were designed in a much more haphazard fashion. When done properly they are supposedly quite safe and maintain good traffic flow.

However, I think that because they are such a fad they are being put in a lot of places where they don't belong and they'll end up getting a bad reputation again.

There is a round-about or rotary or some other type of circuler traffic devise in Brattleboro, VT. It has two lanes entering and around. Confuses the heck out of people. I was behind a trucker hauling logs on a spread axle trailer who was in the left lane entering the circle when some genius in a Kia cuts inside just as he starts to enter. The rear wheels caught his car mid-trunk and flattened it up to the rear window. It was amazing in that it was slow motion due to the heavily loaded truck and after part way around the car was spit out and the truck continued without realizing what happened. I went past the truck and stopped him and he thought I was some crazy person for cutting him off. I truly believe he had no idea until I informed him of what had happened. The cars driver was ok.

Yep
totally agree
They work in particular spots, but then the city/county/state/whatever gets carried away and put them everywhere to "slow' traffic down. We surely do not need to slow traffic down, we need to speed it up.

Anyway, IMHO the single lane roundabouts work pretty well, the multiple lane ones are unbelievably confusing and slow.

When I was stationed in England the one or two lane roundabouts were great. Some of the ones down in London that had 6 or 7 lanes of traffic were scary. went around one about five times until I figured out how to get off the darn thing. Don't even want to talk about leaving England and going over to France where the roundabouts went in the other direction. Lucky I didn't kill somebody.
