Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

. We should punish the act, not the thought. Funny it's the self described bastions of free speech that don't get this......actually, it's not at all funny

Yes, I agree and remember that Shepard's death was used for the debate to have a national hate crime law. Not because he was a gay guy killed by heterosexual.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

In the Dirkhising case, if there wasn't hate involved, it probably wouldn't have been committed; as with most violent crime. I also believe the perpetrators in both cases should have been dealt with in the same manner.
======================================

I agree with you about this. I think we heard about these cases nationally because both deaths were used to push a political position. Shepard's for the debate about hate crime law and Dirkhising for bias against conservatives in the news.

So true, but I would include Limbaugh and the clones of him in the same category as Buchanan. Ditto to the truth and continue to spread the lie about the media bias.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Of course it wasn't a story if Bill's or Al's kids were caught drinking, they were liberals and their values weren't opposed to their families enjoying life. W on the other hand doesn't really remember drinking too much in college. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif As a conservative, it is news that his own children are exploring potentially liberal, well at least liberating, activities.

I don't think Bill & Hillary had easy treatment from the press. I believe many conservatives believed every negative thing ever said about them. Likewise the liberals are relishing in the antics of W's daughters.

If you doubt me, well believe this; I really didn't need to know the Bill's private part had a hook to the left. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Exactly, a bigger situation. Wisconsin has had homosexuals murdered savagely. No debate about hate crime and no national attention.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Of the 3 largest newspapers in the country, the NY Times and Washington Post backed Gore and the LA Times is conspicuosly missing.

The national media representatives, in exit polling, have voted for either Clinton or Gore in the 85% ranger in each of the last 3 elections. I believe it shows, you believe it doesn't. Whatever.

In reality it should not have been close (number of papers endorsing one or the other). As a geographical statement, which newspapers represent - a geographical area, George W Bush won most of the US. You've probably seen "The Map". Bush should have had 3/4 or more of the newspapers if the newspapers were representing their readers, don't ya think???
========================================
I trust you know which papers are the equivalent in circulation in your area.

Some of the papers that backed Gore cannot fairly be counted one for one. Bush was backed by the Chi Trib and Gore by the Daily Southtown.

Interesting that you brought up the LA Times they are listed on the bottom as no position. California was perdicted to vote Gore. Did they fail to represent their readers, or more likely they didn't want to irrate any customers either way?

You are right, sort of, Bill and Hillary didn't receive easy treatment from the press on things that didn't matter. While the press was playing Jerry Springer with Bubba they should have been figuring out where are nuclear technology was going.

As it should be, homosexuals are not special. No more special than my uncle that was killed. He was a bar tender and a couple of idiots came into the bar pulled a gun, shot him, and emtied the cash register. No debate, no national attention. And guess what? He is just as dead as the gays in Wisconsin. His family doesn't have him anymore either.

It was murder in South Bend, In and it was murder in Wisconsin .... not SPECIAL murder in Wisconsin.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

What would a national hate crime law do that the laws that are already on the books cannot?? Give special power to a Fed. "hate crime police" that the current police do not have??? I think we really need to examine where things go, before we go there! Just like an equal rights amendment?? What can another amendment give that is not laid out in the first 10??? I will concede that there has been those who have misused their power and freedom, but I don't need more restriction placed upon me for their shortcomings or crimes!! We have plenty of laws already that our court system seems to have trouble enforcing!!
