Worst truck- 2012 F-150. Already had over $3k in repairs.

Best-Same 2012 F-150. Lots of power, lots of room, tows well and rides good.

LOL.

Well looks like the F150 is back to the dealer again for a miss that is getting worse. Can't hardly idle without truck shuddering etc.

I've only owned 4 pickups over the last 38 years: 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger-Lariat Supercab, 1985 Chevrolet Scotsdale 3/4T, 1990 Chevrolet Shortbed Silverado, and my current 2009 Ford F-150 XP Supercab. All have been great. Worst vehicle I've owned was a 1983 Chevrolet Malibu. All purchased new from a dealer.

Thats terrible to hear that, the ecoboost certainly seems to be unreliable for some people.

Best, 2001 f-250 7.3l PS still have the truck. It has commercial plowed all of it's life and towed way more weight than it should have. Torque converter lock up clutch partially failed [couldn't have been the 100+ HP chip:laughing:] The only major repair! Worst by far was my 2000 2500 GM. Lets see, wheel bearing, steering sector shaft, transfer case, exhaust manifold, muffler, ect. 3 mpg plowing. Sold it at 36k. CJ

I've owned trucks all my life. My worst truck is my 2003 F150 xlt 4x4 SuperCrew. From day one it steered like a barge (Left full rudder!), wallows like a '72 El Dorado, mushy brakes, rattles and clanks constantly, rear window leaks constantly so it smells like mildew, had to replace the entire AC system after 5 years, it is hard turn when in 4wd, off road capability is marginal at best, it won't go straight in slippery mud, the bed is too short, tailgate is too narrow, fit and finish in the interior is a joke, have replaced headlight switch 3 times at $20 a pop for a cheap piece of plastic, temp and compass readout failed after about 6 years (I repaired it myself last year).

My best truck is my 2003 F150 xlt 4x4 SuperCrew. Despite all of the above it has done everything I've asked it to do from towing horse trailers, towing car and tractor trailers, hauling my dogs and kids around (they grew up in it), it was integral in building our log cabin, it has made long family trips, it is comfortable to drive on the highway, it has never actually broken down, never left us stranded, no major mechanical issues. It has also never had a front end alignment but has only had three sets of tires one of which was previously used and all of which had worn perfectly evenly. My daughter learned to drive in it and drove it all the way through high school. She is married and still gets upset when I talk about selling it.

I love to hate it and hate to love it. But it is still going and still my primary truck.

The truck I most enjoyed was my 1991 Nissan Pathfinder. This was when SUVs were more truck than car (and it was a body-on-frame truck). It was underpowered by today's standards but it drove well, handled well, was geared perfectly for an off road vehicle, came with 31 inch tires stock and was an extremely capable off road vehicle including barreling around at high speeds on the deep sand roads of Eglin AFB's reservation......Scandinavian flicks, hand brakes turns and all.....just for fun.

Best - 72 Chevy 3/4 4 speed 4:10 built 350. Loved the petrol but could pull the world.
Worst - 72 Ford 1/2 4 speed ? CRAP 360! Doggiest v8 I ever owned.
Favorite - 75 Pontiac Grand Prix. Loaded with every option, 400, he really thought he was a Caddy. Fantastic road car.
Funnest - 65 Chevy 1/2 4 speed WAY overbuilt 350. BEAT so bad it was called the War Wagon but embarrassed many a Camaro/mustang !
Thanks for the memories!

My Dad bought a 75 Catalina with that 400 in it. That car loved to go! Dad's passed now and my brother sold the car a few years ago after it had set parked for 15 years for a demolition derby car. He kept the motor though - it is still going strong.

I grew up in a 'Ford family'. My father owned a couple F-150's and abused them in the extreme and they just kept coming back for more. They literally rusted away but were still running when he got rid of them.

So, I thought those F-150's are great, that will be my first pickup. I bought a new 2005 F-150 4x4 Super Cab with the 8 ft bed. At first I was in love with it. Then at 72,000 miles the transmission went up. Keep in mind this vehicle was meticulously maintained and gently operated. When I walked in the transmission shop and up to the counter and said I have a 2005 F-150 and the transmission is slipping. He looked at me and said, let me guess, you have about 70,000 miles on it??? I said yes, how did you know? He replied that's when they start to fail. $3000 dollars later I was back in business.

I received two recall notices. One said the drivers airbag could unexpectedly fire while driving due to a short in the wiring. The second recall notice said the brakes could fail because of a burst hose. There was a third recall which said the injectors could go bad and cause severe engine damage. So off to the dealer I go for the recalls. While there, I pointed out that there was a misfire at idle, an rattling noise and when I would start the engine cold, it was suddenly race (leaky injector). I also asked if he could check the alignment.

Well they did the recalls on the airbag and brakes and found nothing wrong with the injectors despite the SWWWOOOOOSH when it was started. He did tell me the truck needed upper ball joints at the low, low price of only $1800 (I replaced those myself for around $100 and two hours work). Theyinsisted that it needed new spark plugs. Which are a big deal for that engine (5.4 L) since they strip out or break off when removed. I told them to go a head with the spark plug job. The dealer said they didn't hear any rattling noise and that all 5.4L engines sound like that.

24 hours later, I got a check engine light (first time ever). I searched the car and found they left off a vacuum hose on the brake master cylinder which caused a evaporative system error.

About six months later, it started throwing codes like crazy. I replaced a coil pack and that fixed the first set of codes then another cylinder started throwing codes so I replaced that coil pack and that fixed those codes. Then the codes came back and I decided I would just replace all the coil packs and pull the spark plugs and check them to see if there were any signs of a lean burn from bad injectors. Well nearly all the sparkplugs could be removed with my fingers and no spark plug wrench (I actually removed them without a wrench and just the socket). The blow by was causing the coil packs to fail by shorting them out with carbon. I pulled the plugs and the dealer had never replaced them. Two had no electrode at all they were all very worn. I replaced them with new plugs and coil packs.

Next the engine started making a knocking noise which turned out to be the cam phasers. Then there was a banging from the drive train which turned out to be a defective slip joint in the drive shaft. Apparently they weren't lubricated properly at the factory and the plating wears off and the splines start to friction weld themselves together.

I drove up to a toll booth and went to open the window and it fell down inside the drivers door. JUST BEFORE A THUNDERSTORM!!!

Needless to say, I will never be buying another Ford product.
