Wind picked up from out of Canada. Power just went out. That’s like the 4th time in 2 months. At this rate I don’t ever need yo exercise my generator
A little help from the Canucks

Jet stream is weirding out..... our left coast is about 25C warmer than the right side.......

Finally my new oil sucker came in and the Westinghouse 9500 gets its first oil change today.
With all of three hours on it but I'm doing the snowblower too today so it's oil change day and out come the oil diapers.
Not much to spill using this device.
Nice that both motors take 10/30 synthetic

I've had several of these suckers including the original one in the round steel can. They all worked pretty well, but
this is the first one I've had with the ability to hook up compressor air to the unit and let the compressor power the
sucking so I don't have to pump manually. Good for arthritic hands and bad shoulders. We shall see...
Seems very heavily made and nice quality. Amazon. Chinese. 73 bucks.
Could easily have a Napa sticker on it.

In the past about every fourth oil change I get the engine hot and then drain it using the plug, which gets oil all over the place due to poor
placement say right over axle. But I figure it gets the gunk out of the bottom better. Maybe that's silly with new machinery and synthetic oil, but
always wonder what I'm missing when I use the suction hose, even with tilting the motor and wiggling the suction tube.
Plug on gen is in good spot, better than snowblower, but will use this for now.
Being able to use shop air is nicer. The one I have is not that old, but I had a fight with the hand pump last time...... cold out, so I didn't spend the time to take apart a cylinder loaded with oil to check seals......

Shop-air + venturi....... used to use one at my buddy's commercial shop - great for oil changes, and evacuating trani pans before dropping them.

Esp. on something w/o a filter, pulling the drain plug on occasion would help me sleep better too....

OMG..... another stupid outage at 7:40 am. This is like the 6th time this year. Absolutely no wind, sunny day.
the poor genny is sure getting a workout this year.

but after breakfast I’ll be shutting it down manually. I’ll be out chipping downed trees from last wind storm.

"Wind picked up from out of Canada. Power just went out. That’s like the 4th time in 2 months. At this rate I don’t ever need to exercise my generator"

Your lucky, only 4 in 2 months!
Where I am we seem to average more than that.
Last one lasted 11 hours or so.
But then my 1000 watt genny started just fine and we sat back and watched TV and the phone system was not down this time.
Due for an oil change, on the 'to do' list.

A lot of our power lines run thru forested areas hence the frequent outages.
The line clearing crews work 'by the book' and won't cut a 60 ft tree that is outside of the hydro right of way, to the point that they actually use a transit to determine the 25 ft right of way.
Worst yet is the cut, slash and leave all there mess for U to clean up.

My genny has a permanent 'keeper' connected so It always starts when needed.
It is stationed in my wood shed alongside of the concrete foundation so we don't even hear it when running, but neighbors do however unless theirs are also running.

Good news is Hydro have been walking all our lines and we are hopeful that they might be moved out to roadside.

High winds lately. Power was out for 2-3 hours the other day, while I was at work.

Spring Wind, can back off anytime now, and it won't be too soon....

I don't think Generac has anything to worry about here but Ford is touting their new
all electric Lightning truck as having significant automatic home backup capability

My generator pulls 10,000 pounds and has air bags and a 13 speaker stereo.
What does yours have?...;)

Tim The Tool Man's generator........

Really expensive way to power your house, but if you needed one more checkbox to convince the CFO/SWMBO.....

Gayle posted an interesting recent Lightning vid in his EV thread, from that Lars guy (Denmark IIRC). Raises some interesting points, both technical and business related.

Myself, I'll be sticking with fossil fuel backups, for the foreseeable future.

some big tree must have gone down, enough for 163 PECO customers to be out yesterday afternoon, nice that I can track it on map.
They came back on about ten minutes before estimated fix time, about three hours total.

fired up the gen, flipped the breaker for the electric hot water heater, and then threw the interlock breaker.
Handled my two ton a/c easily but geez is it noisy. I need to go back and read about some of the noise attenuating fixes you guys have done, there's lots
of examples on this site. Going to check the oil today but I doubt it used anything on its first run after changing to synthetic oil.
But shame on me if I don't check...

Had something silly happen during this, could not figure out why kitchen appliances wouldn't work whether on gen or utility power.
Light bulb went on, pun intended, and I checked the kitchen gfi's, both were tripped I guess from the surges.

Honeywell should come up with a quieter muffler and package it as some luxury option and charge a hundred bucks for it.
I'd pay...this gen compared to my old inverter gen is a roaring racket maker.

Problem is air cooled unit like air flow. Enclosures block air flow. Adding mufflers restrict exhausts and can damage engines not designed for a muffler.

personally I’d rather have noise than darkness.

A couple weeks ago, my power was out for most of a day... After a while I started my little Honda 2000 and plugged a few things into it, letting it run for the day.

Turns out the yuppie that bought some land down the road from me, hit a pole while putting in a new driveway for his coming "mc-mansion" and broke it off... Of course, he proclaimed it all happened because the pole was "rotten", not because he hit it with a dozer! ha ha ha

BTW, the power company guy told me, I'm not buying that story... lol

SO, another corn field turned into a lawn....why can't the townies just stay in town!!
