What's it rated for? I was looking at the Titan XD myself, but didn't know when it would be released (or if it would be in my price range when it finally hit the lots) so I went with a 3.5 eco to replace my Tacoma. I went from 6,500lbs tow to 12,300lbs with the max tow package so that's plenty for me. After True Car and trade it took the $52k MSRP down to $38k while I assumed the Titan would be in the $60k range based on the other diesel 3/4 ton prices. I love my F150, but I still look at the Titans and wonder. Though you mentioning the pain of the DPF/DEF makes me a little glad I didn't go that way. That was one of the concerns I had when considering the diesel version, and really made me wonder if I wanted to deal with it or not. The 420ft-lbs and 12,300lb tow of the eco seemed like a nice compromise. More than I had before for more of a margin to keep it below the limits, but not getting into new diesel regulation BS.

I'm certain that both could pull my stuff, but the higher torque and weight of the XD were the gravy to put it on top. Besides that, they were the same price if the F150 had all the equipment I got on the XD. The fed's smoke and mirrors about the air pollution has been a constant irritant, but I am learning to live with it. When I bought the truck, I was not aware of the issue. I got a crash course in emissions control and DEF. My tractors don't use DEF.


I do like my diesel torque.

Gotcha. I have a 2015, and from the data sheet I found the 3.5 eco SCREW 6.5ft bed with max tow and the 3.55 axle was rated for 12,300, though I really had to dig to find that. (It changes a bit based on cab config and axle ratio if I remember). I can imagine the crash course! haha My tractor doesn't use it either (or have that bypass switch to mow in reverse I keep hearing about, one more reason I'm glad I bought an older one), but I couldn't find info on it. Like how often do you refill it, how much does it cost, does the system require routine maintenance to avoid costly repairs? I just didn't want to deal with it, and I'm nowhere near the 12k range when I tow anyway so it wasn't worth the headache.

That extra weight might be nice. I've noticed a remarkable difference in winter driving between my Tacoma and F150 that I suspect has a lot to do with the extra 1,000lbs on the F150. Though at the same time a buddy got his Ram 2500 (9,000lbs) stuck in a field that my 5,700lb F150 had no problems with. He kept sinking while I was able to stay on top and keep moving, even pulling him out until it sank to the frame. So I guess there's pros and cons!

Here is a picture of my Kaufman with a load of hay on it. I went two bales wide and two high. Three wide will fit, but three wide and two high puts me around 16,500 or so, a little more than I want to tow with my 2001 F-250

My senior year in high school, I had a job bucking bales of alfalfa in central Kansas (1967). We used a 1.5 ton flatbed truck that we stacked 8 tiers high. It was a good thing that I was a teenager then; it would disable me to try it now. Green bales ran nearly 100 lbs back then.

I never considered how much weight we put on that truck, but that is when I learned to drive a stick shift. Low granny gear would let the truck creep along while I jumped out and my brother and I stacked bales while on the move. Wow, that trip down memory lane is a rush!

I decided it was time to retire my 2013 F-150 ecoboost with max tow as I was pretty close to my max with towing my tilt bed trailer and tractor. I picked this up a few weeks ago at a state surplus/county auction for $6k. Probably could of got it cheaper as I was away for work and no one was bidding on it so my my father-in-law started the bidding at $5k. One other person bid on it and I got it for $6k. I've been looking for a few years for one with air brakes and a dump bed. This one doesn't have a dump bed, but I figure for a few grand I can add a dump to it. Now I can load up some attachments on the flatbed and tow my tractor along without being overweight.

Nicely done... '05-'07 headlight and bumper conversion. Nice to see another ps.org crossover... I try to take credit for dragging Terry over here! I don't check out ps.org much any more...

How does that trailer tow empty? Does it bounce a lot. I have heard that aluminum trailers were kind of bouncy when empty but if they are not! Then I don't have to worry about rust!

Thinking about upgrading my 7000 pound capacity to something 14000 pound or greater. Would love to try gooseneck but that is a huge price jump. Also would love to try the 8000 pound axles, but can't find them anywhere.
Any opinions or advice? Primary use would be hauling water to the house, secondary would by tractor, building materials, quads etc.

Look up Kaufman trailers. They have the best price I could find in a 14k gooseneck and it was around $5k before I added options.

look used. around here there are 20-25 GNs for 2500 (needs work) to 5000 (fairly nice) everyday.

lots of manufacturers have 8K axles. can't remember off hand, but last week i was looking online at trailers and found several 16K trailers with 8K axles. big tex, pj, sure trace, load trail, Appalachian and Kaufman were the manufacturers i looked at.

Look up Kaufman trailers. They have the best price I could find in a 14k gooseneck and it was around $5k before I added options.

Here is a pic of my 2013 Kaufman 14K trailer I picked up at a great price.

Mine has two spares and they put a tool box on it. The paint is not the greatest. But it is paint and not powder coating. I'll probably put some touch up paint on it this summer.

Just picked this up. 6x12 12K

Looked at used but they were beat or more $ than I wanted to pay. On the way back from looking at a used dump I noticed a dealer that had two. So I stopped in and talked. They had a new dump sized right but a bit overkill as I was looking for 10k.

Made an offer and it was accepted! :cool2:
