Just a quick polling...we're looking at a JD Z915B with 60 inch deck that neighbor lady left her kids when she passed. They stored it with us as they live out of state, with the notion they'd retrieve it at a later date. It's been here several months so we pulsed the kids if they wanted to sell it, to which they responded yes but didn't set a price. I think they're wanting us to make an offer. I don't think they're really enthused with renting something to haul it back to their place half way across the country, let alone need such a large mower themselves. Their mom was special to us and we want to do right but not overpay.

I've no familiarity whatsoever with the EZ turn mowers, used value...etc. I suspect one or more of the blade spindle bearings is going out based on the rattling noise I hear when the PTO is engaged, but I haven't taken it apart. Hour meter shows 196 hours. Oil full and clean so somebody was watching that, but I doubt their mom understood importance of keeping those blade spindle bearings greased. Front tires have severe cracking on the sides, no doubt from setting around unused too long. They need replacing. I know their mom kept it in a shed out of the weather when not being used. I ran it with mower engaged yesterday for a short exercise to get a feel of operability. I've no idea as to year built or MSRP when sold, but while at the store on another matter, John Deere rep told me it probably originally sold for around $8500. He also said he liked the newer E model Kawasaki engine better than the Kohler engine that is in the B version. Is anyone aware of problems with Kohler engines? Any thoughts as to resonable used price or other things I should look for are welcome. Best..

Oops...did I break protocol soliciting thoughts as to pricing on OP? I can take it down if that's not proper. Please let me know if I did.

I would also prefer Kawasaki powered. On Tractor House that mower model with similar hours are listed for 5-6k. I would think 5k would be a fair offer.

Thanks Rj...after posting original, I got to wondering if soliciting such info was allowed per forum guidelines. I assume [correction from earlier reply: is allowed]. Thanks for your input. Are you aware of any shortcomings/issues with Kohler? Yeah, any used equip evaluators...you mention Tractor House...is appreciated. Best...

You stored it, so why can't you use it and decide if you like it ?? Seems fair to me. Obvious they don't want it, so if it works well for you, I'd offer $4k.
You're still a good and fair guy for doing this for them.
It's at least 10 years old. They don't work well on hills, just sayin. Reason why I don't have one.

Tractor data shows

Thanks beenthere. I ran it a while yesterday to get the feel of it. Nice to know not good on hills...our mowing outlay is just over 7 acres and pretty flat but lots of trees we've been putting in. I can see where it would go much faster than anything else we have. Don't really want to run it much since we don't own it and I suspect one or more spindle bearings are going out. Best...
