    pto pump

I'm trying to decide on some sort of sprayer to pull behind my 1401d. I need to spray some row crops with a mixture that includes fish emulsion and was wondering whether I should go with a 12v sprayer or a pto pump...homemade sprayer. Anyone know the pros and cons of pto pumps and/or how to...

    spraying fish emulsion

I'd like to use a sprayer(12v) to spray fish emulsion and other good smelling stuff on some of our crops but am concerned it may clog the sprayer. Anyone out there ever spray fish emulsion? Or, does anyone recommend a reasonably priced sprayer? I have a carry-all I hardly ever use that I can...

    Wheel hoe

I was just curious to see if anyone out there has used a wheel hoe, and if so, what results you've had. I've found a nice looking one at Johnny's Seeds, but these things are pretty pricey; I wanted some input before paying out a few hundred bucks for one! Thanks for any help!! johnnys seeds

    homemade go-kart

Anyone out there ever built a homemade, wooden go-kart..just the kind for coasting, no motor? I told my son about the one my brother built for me when I was a kid--and of course he wants one too. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

    lift arm pins

Anyone know a good source for replacement lift arm pins? One of mine came loose and fell off while I was tilling...I'd had trouble before with the nut coming loose, and should've had sense enough to put some Locktite on it... thanks!

    weightlifting--1401d

I'm still trying to decide on purchasing a 48" flail mower for my 1401d. The mower weighs 463 lbs. ; the YM169d's(closest US model) 3pt. hitch is rated to lift 661 lbs. I added a load of just over 470 lbs to my 3pt just to see if it would lift. The tractor lifted the load, but I believe a few...

    water temp. sender?

Anyone out there know the size socket I might need to remove the sender plug from my 1401d? I'm trying to install a temp. gauge, but I don't have any elbow room in that tiny engine compartment--so, i'm thinking a deep socket wrench is my only solution. thanks

    Mowing  flail mower

I know, I know, I should be posting this to the Implements/Attachments forum, but I was wondering if any Yanmar owners use flail mowers. I have a 1401d, so I would need something small. I've heard they are a good multi-purpose mower, making a smoother cut than a rotary/brush mower. I'm...

    Tiller  any experience w/Muratori tillers?

I have a 34" Muratori rotary tiller...bought it brand new. The problem is that 2 of the flanges which the tines bolt to are bent. I have hit a few rocks here and there, but didn't think any were substantial enough to bend the flanges! Has anyone had problems with this (or other brand)tillers...

    furrow/row marker for rotary tiller

I'm wondering if anyone has a method for marking rows behind a rotary tiller. I usually till a row thoroughly, then go back and make small furrows for planting seeds, using a triangular hoe. I was thinking I might attach something to the rear door of the tiller which would drag along behind and...

    i need a light!

My 1401d suffered a broken headlight this weekend--we'll skip the long explanation. The bulb is fine but the glass in the housing is gone! The glass is stamped with "Stanley 6-1648." Is this an aftermarket light or factory? If it's factory, I guess I could find a salvaged one or maybe get a...

    dirt scoops--and my1401d

I've convinced my wife that I "need" a dirt scoop to move gravel, wood chips, and dirt around on our property. I tried a 24" scoop onto my 1401d but found it didn't lift high enough to dump--even with adjustments to the lift arms/supports. I'm wondering if anyone else with a 1401 or smaller has...

Thanks to everybody for all of your help, tips, etc. I've asked all sorts of questions here and have had lots of helpful/friendly answers! Thanks to all of you, I managed to change trans./hyd fluid, engine oil, and gear oil in the 4WD axle and differential. I even found filters that...

    non-slip coatings

Anyone use "Plasti-dip" or other brand of coatings on your tractor footrests/decks? I'm thinking of coating mine and wanted to know about other experiences. I've used the stuff on tool handles and such and have been pleased, but didn't know how durable it might be for this purpose. thanks

    rear wheel bolts

Forgive me for not knowing the proper terminology , but I have a question about the bolts that secure the rear wheels to the axle. On my 1401d, there are supposed to be 2 of these bolts on each wheel, but mine came with only one--should I be concerned? Is this dangerous? Can someone supply me...

    need parts

I'm looking for a dealer who can supply filters(air, oil, fuel) for my YM1401d. I tried the local NAPA parts store, but they didn't have what I needed--and were none too eager to try getting what I needed! I'm also having trouble finding stabilizer pins to fit the lift arms--the pins I have now...

    cold weather 4WD shifting

Has anyone had trouble shifting into 4wd when the weather's cold? I've checked the gear oil level, and it's fine.... I can shift into 4wd, but it just takes a little more "hrumpfh" when it's cold. Maybe i'm just weaker when it's cold! thanks

    working my 1401d

Since we've been put in the dark by the recent ice storm in NC, since 5:30 a.m. Thursday,I've had ample opportunity to put my Yanmar 1401d to work! There were several family members(I won't mention their names) who doubted my tractor could even budge some of the trees and large limbs which had...

    bad battery?

I just bought a new battery this summer and already have had to jump off my 1401d twice in the past week! I'm going to have the battery tested, but if it's good, I'm assuming some problem w/the alternator? I understand those are fairly expensive gadgets, so I'd be interested in rebuilding; if...

    PTO pump[crazy] ?

Yep, I'm nuts , but I'm wondering if anyone has found other uses for PTO pumps. I've been playing with the idea of building a windmill to pump water from a rainwater collection system to irrigate my crops(through a drip irrigation system); could I rig up an old PTO pump to do the job? I know...

Oil & Fuel  another fuel leak ?

I have a 1401d which has recently developed a leak somewhere around the filter bowl. It appears to be coming from the shut-off switch, but there is also a little leakage at the fuel line connections to the bowl/filter. Could there be a seal gone bad at the shut-off? If so, would I have to...

    tractor speed

I'm looking into purchasing a small Holland transplanter to pull behind my YM1401d. Fortunately, they have a transplanter that will fit my Yanmar, but the salesman said the tractor would need to drive no faster than .02 mph in order to operate the transplanter effectively. If I put it in low 1...

    Planters  tobacco planter?

we grow flowers which we sell to florists, hotels/restaurants,wholesalers, etc. Each year the business "grows," a little more; now setting out all of those plants is giving me an aching back. Does anyone know if I could use a tobacco planter for setting out plugs of annual flowers, etc.? One...

    upright arms

I have a YM1401d and have trouble with the retaining pins/clips hitting the inside of my fenders whenever the 3 pt. is in the fully-raised position. If I reverse the set-up(move the fixed and adjustable arms to the inside of the upper lift arms), the pins won't hit the fenders. Is this a good...

    tiller/PTO shaft chain

I have a Muratori rototiller--which I've been quite pleased with so far. I do have one of those dumb questions I should've asked before I began using my new toy. There is are 2 small chains connecting the two ends of the plastic shield on my PTO shaft. Are these supposed to be connected to...

    attachment storage--outside

I've been looking through the "attachment storage" posts, and I've determined that I "need" a bigger storage shed. Since that isn't possible right now, does anyone have suggestions for storing implements/attachments outdoors? I only have room for my tractor and rototiller in the shed, so my...

    slip clutch

I decided to finally give my 1401d and new Muratori tiller a workout. I carefully scoured the field and removed all rocks of any size worth mentioning. Happily tilling along, I dis-covered a huge rock which had cleverly hidden itself just inches below the surface. Needless to say, it stopped...

    oil light

I just rigged up a worklight on thr rear of my 1401D; after reconnecting the negative battery cable and trying out the light, I decided to start her up and do a little work in the garden. I noticed that my oil light did not come on when I turned on the switch--the tractor started, but no oil...
