My First Real Tractor
Model Year: 1954
I've had my Ford NAA for a little over a year now. When I first bought the tractor ($1950) I just wanted something I could use to do some chores around the house. I didn't really care what she looked like, just that she worked well. Well, one thing led to another and before I knew it I had her torn apart. I didn't redo the transmission or hydraulics, but pretty much everything else was torn off, cleaned or replaced, and put back together. I still haven't finished the sheet metal, but I've used her in the interim to; dig out a patio and a pool foundation, split wood (with a homemade log splitter), run a cordwood saw, and pull a trailer. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ford and jump right in. I had literally zero experience with anything this big, but if you can read, have a few friends with more mechanical smarts than yourself, and have this forum you should be okay. I had so much fun refurbishing the NAA I went out and bought a Ford YT16 lawn tractor for a $100. After refurbishing it and buying a leaf catcher attachment for $175 I didn't have to rake one leaf this year!! I know I could have gone out and bought or leased a new Kubota, but I wouldn't have added to my skill set nor would I had had as much fun!
Pros: Use of PTO for various jobs.
Cons: Heavy, ruts in yard, turning radius.
