5093E John Deere
Don't Be Fooled By Green Paint
Model Year: 2012

I traded the tractor in at 1300 hours. It had many issues, big and small, fixed under warranty. In the 3 years of ownership, it spent 2400 hours at the dealer getting fixed (was split twice, transmission and rear end), the power take-off intermittently stopped working, and 3-point hitch started surging when the warranty ran out - so it was traded in for a different brand. The tractor was basically a 60-horsepower tractor with a 93-horsepower engine. When worked, the drive-train wasn't strong enough for the power. It is way too expensive for what it is, you get way more tractor for a similar price (or less) from other brands. This might be an okay tractor for someone who doesn't use it much, it's more of a toy. Not built to do work for many hours. Don't be fooled by the green paint, John Deere isn't what it used to be.

Pros: Air con was cold
Cons: Value, capability, features, quality

5093E John Deere
Nothing But Problems
Model Year: 2012

The 5093E is a 60-horsepower tractor with a 93-horsepower engine. It has the power, but not the capability of a tractor in that range. The 3-point hitch lifts half the weight of other tractors in the same price range, the hydraulics are slow and weak, the tires are very cheap "1000 hour tires." It is used for light farm work (no tillage) and it's not holding up at all. It has been to the dealer for engine and transmission work (tractor split), multiple leaks, etc. It has been maintained by the book and not abused. I was also told not to pull much with the drawbar as the casting on the differential housing may break. I saw one broken at another dealer from hauling bales. The controls are well placed and it's nice to operate other than being very loud inside the cab. The air conditioning is very cold but the heat is terrible and the windows won't stay clear in winter. Overall, this tractor is a piece of junk and I would not recommend a 5E or any John Deere product after this experience. I should have compared specs more closely to other brands before buying this tractor, as most brands have way more capability in this price and horsepower range. I expected much more from John Deere. Before buying a John Deere, look closely at Kubota, New Holland, or Case. Compare prices and specs, drive them. I wish I did.

Pros: Cold air conditioning
Cons: Capability

Good Tractor
Model Year: 2013

Have used it for one season without a single issue. From using the HX 7 rotary brush hog to many other heavy duty uses this tractor is worth the investment.

Pros: Good weight distribution.
Cons: Power train framework, does not have a separate frame like the 6 series models.

Inexperienced Tractor Driver
Model Year: 2012

My first tractor with attachments like backhoe, rotary tiller, rear blade and rotary cutter. It wasn't difficult to learn it and now I'm happy what I can do with my tractor.

Pros: Fair price for good stuff.
Cons: Dealer could be better.

Too Early to Tell
Model Year: 2013

Had it a week. I will post updates as I use it. I have been satisfied with JD for many years. The 3320 compact has been the most reliable and surpassed all expectations. We will see how the 5093e does. Want to buy HX 6 or 7.

Pros: Too early to say.
Cons: Too early to say.

5093E John Deere
5093E Not Quite As Good as Expected
Model Year: 2012

At this time tractor has 500 hours and has been used for regular farm work (hay, manure, silage, tillage, seeding etc). So far it has had engine oil and hydraulic leaks (minor, fixed within first 50 hours), bad blower motor switch, terrible gearshift rattle (dealer just repaired) and a bad turbo. All those problems on a tractor less then 2 years old that doesn't get pushed too hard makes me worry about the long term reliability. Overall its a nice tractor to use, controls are fairly well placed, e-pto is great if I don't need all the power, a/c is great-heat not so hot, but... The back end is very light and it needs lots of weight to keep the rear tires on the ground for loader work, no big deal there. The 3 point hitch is dissapointing to say the least, very low lift capacity. Can't fully lift some implements my old 65hp zetor could easily lift! When parking on uneven ground the cab twists and sometimes the door won't open. I think this is an okay tractor for light farm or commercial use, but I would look into other brands to see how they hold up.

Pros: 35kph transport speed.
Cons: 3 point hitch lift capacity.

Purchased my JD 5093E to run my round baler and haybine. My other tractor is a Deutz 6240 4WD which I purchased new in 1989 and still is a great tractor. Just needed the additional horsepower 93 vs 45 to run my haying operation. Overall the John Deere has performed flawlessly. I also purchased a front end loader with the tractor. Love the joystick. Great hydraulics. On the haying operation, this tractor has no problems running a 10 ft haybine and a JD 4x5 baler. Also use it for regular farm chores like manure spreading, hauling firewood and plowing snow. Plan to do some plowing and disking with it this spring.

Pros: 4WD, hydraulics, cab layout, fuel economy.
Cons: Plastic fender covers on inside of cab on left and right are a little cheesy. Need to beefed up.

The 553 loader won't reach the ground! You have to fold hood guard down to open hood and the bucket is cheaply made, but good power for the price, I guess. I would recommend this tractor to a small land owner, but do research if you need to do a lot of loader work.

Pros: Plenty of power, spacious cab, value.
Cons: Location of 3pt controls, hood gaurd, cheaply made bucket.

Initial thoughts: Generally a very nice ultimate acreage tractor. Easy to use, great visibility from the cab, and the quick detach attachment system is very user friendly. The 563SL loader is a beast and easily handles 2000 lb. round bales. The power reverser is great and very easy to use. Negatives: The dealer installed Pioneer radio CD player is goofy. It is an LCD display and the angle from the operator seat is such that the driver cannot see the display. The MFWD engaged light on the instrument panel is not used on the 5093 so the only reminder that you are in 4 wheel drive is by checking the position of the lever. The 3 point hitch controls are awkwardly placed. The interior door handle is also a little weird. There is no real door handle but a large tab that the operator has to manipulate to get the door open. A very nice tractor and I would certainly recommend to anyone interested in this size of tractor.

Pros: Visibility, easy to operate, great loader, & good value.
Cons: Radio, heater controls, & lots of plastic in the cab.
