JD110 John Deere
Transmission Housing Broke In Half
Model Year: 2005

I love the tractor. It has good power, but at 1800 RPMs back filling a ditch, the clutch housing broke in half. Thank god for my 790 tractor and box blade or I couldn't have finished. The replacement part cost $6000 labor to install $4000. Just to be fair though, (dealer name removed) knew it had been broke when they sold it to me. But still, John Deere should correct this problem weak part. A large John Deere dealer checked out this tractor and said it was in great shape, so this will be my last John Deere.

Pros: Overall performance good
Cons: Weak housing on transmission

Bad news Thin housing walls
Model Year: 2006

Clutch housing breaks in half. You would think they would engineer a minor break point. At $6,000 for a housing they like it being a weak point I assume.

Pros: cheap
Cons: cheap

JD 110 TLB
Model Year: 2006

Own a JD 110 TLB. It has been a good hard working machine with very minor problems easily solved. Two days ago I lost my curl functions on my bucket when finishing a job. The bucket control handle anchor bolts backed out of the frame thus preventing me from curling. Got the bolts back into the frame, but it didn't cure the problem. I ordered a service manual to correctly troubleshoot and repair the problem. The bucket also only raises about 1/2 of the distance. I know I have hyd. flow but I'm not sure if it is adequate. Anyone out there with like problems on your 110TLB? I'd like to hear from you. Email me at gwilson356@comcast.net. Thanks, Gene

Pros: Great tractor.
Cons: Expensive to repair.

Have not had chance to put it two work yet. Seems two be well built hope to put it to work soon. Also have several other tractors IH 706 480 Case Construction King and a Long 2260.

Pros: 110 just the right size for what I intend to do with it.
Cons: Hydrostatic drive pedels had miner problem.

JD 110 TLB
Model Year: 2003

By far the best tractor I've owned. It is big enough to dig out 30-40" fir stumps, small enough to backfill foundation sites. I have moved (carried) 20' fir logs 30" in dia to stack with the clamshell loader bucket, having the backhoe attached for a counter weight. I can take off either the loader or backhoe in 5 minutes and attach any skid loader attachment in front or 3 point implement in the back. It is a great machine. It is a construction JD (yellow), not a farm tractor (green).

Pros: Stated above.
Cons: Expensive.

JD110 John Deere
JD 110 TLB is My Swiss Army Knife
Model Year: 2003

I've had my 110 TLB model number LV0110T21XXXX for just over a decade now and I love this tractor. It has been very reliable and problem free. I purchased it new and have just shy of 1000 hours on it. It doesn't have auxiliary rear hydraulics, seventh function on backhoe, or thumb. If I were to do my purchase over, I should have shelled out the extra money at the time to get these options since I'm basically stuck with what I have now. So that I can operate the hydraulics on my 4-basket tedder, I routed one new hydraulic line from the front auxiliary hydraulics to the back which seems to be working fine and the routing seems to be okay as a permanent solution - not really getting in the way of anything. Here are the issues I've had over the years: 1) Broke hydraulic hose connector fitting on backhoe dipperstick. Operator error...raised the stick and bumped it into a horizontal log. I replaced the fitting and hose with a new one. 2) Battery leaked acid into the battery box, pealing paint and starting rust. Probably also operator error letting the battery freeze and/or recharging with battery charger too quickly. I cleaned it up and repainted it. 3) Hour meter reset to 0 after about 200 hours. 4) Turn signal switch is temperamental. Sometimes it doesn't work or lights stick on rather than flash. Punching the side of the area below the switch with my fist usually fixes this. 5) Difficulty getting hydraulic lines attached to front auxiliary hydraulics. Operator error...didn't follow the procedure in the owners manual which left pressure in the implement and/or tractor. 6) I bought a used Bobcat 30C auger (skid steer mount) that turns pretty slowly even at full throttle RPM...almost too slowly to knock the dirt off the auger to clean it. I assume this isn't really a problem with either machine, just that the auger requires higher flow rate for optimal operation than the 110 TLB auxiliary front hydraulics produce. It works okay, it just is slow and requires full throttle. I've heard getting a PA15 or PA30 that is backhoe quick coupler mounted works better because the backhoe hyraulics have more flow than the front loader auxiliary hydraulics. 7) Tractor loses power and dies when going uphill - maybe 50% of the time. I think this started happening after the last time I changed the fuel filter, so maybe operator error as well. I can back up a hill just fine, but if I go forwards up the hill it often dies. Doesn't matter if I have a full tank of diesel or a nearly empty tank. Doesn't matter if I go up the hill at idle or full throttle, though if I let off the peddle soon enough I can avoid it dying sometimes. It might happen more frequently after running the tractor at lower RPMs for a while. If I run it at high RPMs for a while it seems less likely to die going up slope. It has been this way for a year or two now. I haven't yet tried re-installing the fuel filter, but I plan to next time I do maintenance because I assume there must be an air pocket or something causing this.

Pros: Very versatile machine. I liken it to a Swiss Army Knife because I can do pretty much anything with it, anything that can attach to a skid steer, anything that can attach to a 3-point hitch, and of course the backhoe. The backhoe is very easy to take off and put back on with no tools needed.
Cons: Since the 110 TLB model was discontinued a few years ago, it is now getting harder to find parts for it since John Deere isn't making them anymore. For example, I wanted to purchase the mechanical quick coupler to my backhoe, but it isn't available anymore according the John Deere dealer and googling the part number comes up pretty much empty. One hit on Ebay and the seller wants nearly double the original list price.

Wish John Deere Had Not Quit Building This Model
Model Year: 2007

This a great unit. John Deere has stopped building the 110TLB replaced it with 4720. I have seen these used as the 110TLB the front axle housing is lighter built and are breaking due to the heavy duty use. The backhoe is also lighter.

Pros: Excellent built model. Very dependable.
Cons: Could use a turbo to clean up exhaust, the 4720 has a tier 3 turbo charged engine.

JD 110 Tractor Loader Backhoe
Model Year: 2008

This is really the best of all worlds---front end slips off and takes over 100 steer skid loader attachments. Backhoe slips off and takes over 300 rear implements. Then with kits you can make your own. It is like a cartoon transformer!

Pros: All.
Cons: None.

JD110 John Deere
Multi-Purpose for Serious Home Projects
Model Year: 1992

After owning and operating my 110 for 20 years I have come to rely on it for so many chores. From planting trees, moving heavy loads, running a 10' brush hog, and marshalling trailers around the property, my 110 JD backhoe does everything. I have constructed a boom for it that even adds to its flexibility. Pulling out the docks on Conesus Lake prior to Winter is a breeze using this machine. With my clam shell bucket I can pull out brush, old fencing or stack tree limbs. With the forks I can maneuver palletize loads with ease. After owning several previous tractors, my 110 takes the place of many, all in one. Transport on my flatbed adds to versatility.

Pros: Flexibility, ease of changing attachments, all-wheel drive with tight steering.
Cons: None from my point of view.

Great for Small and Odd Jobs
Model Year: 2007

I love this little tractor. It's small enough to pull behind my pickup but heavy enough to do some real work. With the grapple I have picked up 30' logs with no problem. I have not had any problems mechanically with it. I have had trouble with the blinkers not working but I know it's the switch and I think they want to much for a new one. I am very disappointed that they don't make a hard cab for it, maybe I just haven't found the correct site yet. with the snow blower kit I put on it I have no problem using my old 8' blower on the front.

Pros: Size.
Cons: Cab.

JD110 John Deere
Overall Rating
Model Year: 2004

Was looking for one of these tractors for a while for my snow removal business, but the cost kept from buying until I found the one I bought out of PA. Great price because of a bad engine, (broken Crankshaft). Bought and installed a new Yanmar 4TNV88 engine. Got it ready to work and winter never got here (no snow!). So I have used it around my place doing small jobs it has done everything it needed to. Really like the tractor with the Quick Change front loader bucket---makes it nice. Mine has no backhoe didn't need one for what I needed it for. But it does have the 3-point and a hydro. Scrapper box at the back.

Pros: Quite a few pros for this tractor: Good power for it size and many others.
Cons: Might be a little to light in the back for the load you can put in the loader bucket could install wheel weights but then that would take away some HPs for travel, The overall speed of the tractor could be a little better for travel from job to job.

Handy as a Shirt Pocket!
Model Year: 2003

I absolutely love my JD 110 TLB! I have used it to dig ditches, install french drains, repair septic system, dig stumps, tornado disaster clean-up, grade roads, clear lots, bush hog-6ft, tillage-7ft, soil prep with a 5 shank heavy chisel plow, etc. It has been a very dependable machine and it surprises people when they see what the small machine will do. Some if the things that sold me on the 110 when I was looking are: compared to others the machine is just plain beefier and more construction grade (just look at stuff like the cylinder shaft eyes, the tie rod ends, robust front axle, and beefy rear end, etc), I like the 2 pedal hydro. I like the HEAVY 4 in 1 front bucket and will never have another tractor without it because I use it all the time, ergonomics are great on the loader joystick with the thumb buttons to operate attachments. I really like the creep to position. This is awesome for when you are digging out a huge stump and have to re-position yourself around to get all the roots and you can just drive it around from the backhoe position, I like how the machine is heavy; puts power to the ground. Three things I could see some improvement in design would of course be a spinning seat, machine is heavy and you can tell it struggles some up steep hills so maybe a bigger drive pump. Think the front wheels /tires could have easily handle the next size up to help spread ground pressure out a little especially when doing heavy FEL work. Overall, I am happy with machine.

Pros: Construction grade, heavy, ergonomics, great valving on BH and FEL, dependable-few repairs.
Cons: Flip seat, kinda slow for road traveling.

I Just Love It
Model Year: 2008

After searching for 2 years for the 110, I found the one that I wanted to buy, it cost me more than what I wanted to pay but I bought it anyway (it had all the options that I wanted). One of things that I did not like is the learning curve that I had to go thru, coming from a 1950 Ferguson TO20 to this 2008 JD 110TLB. There is somewhat of a learning curve. I guess that is to be expected. Easy to attach and remove the backhoe. The first time I removed the backhoe it took me about 35 min, now I can do it in less than 10 min. I did get a lot of help from you tube’s BILLSTMAX he has a lot of helpful videos about the 110. Some of the 110 options to look for are: #1 front hydraulics (to operate a grapple), (see photos) #2 Rear hydraulics (for top n tilt), (see photos) #3 hydraulic thumb on the backhoe, (see photos) If you do find a 110 that has a Skid Plate and /or Stabilizer Cylinder Guards that would also be a plus, if it does not have a Skid Plate than one should be installed. (to protect the hydraulic lines) After having it for about a year now I have no regrets. It does everything that I ask of it, Plowing snow, using the MIE grapple, 25A flail mower, Bush hog 91-08 back blade. I downgraded the rating because the way the power steering / hydraulic lines were routed, they had rubbed a hole on each other, they could have been routed better.

Pros: Very easy to attach and remove the backhoe.
Cons: None.

Love the Tractor Don't Use It Enough
Model Year: 2005

It's been a very dependable tractor plenty of power, very agile around tight spaces, great for digging stump trenches drainage systems. I really hate to sell the tractor but I don't use it enough and think somebody else we get much better use from it.

Pros: Comfortable, dependable, powerful.
Cons: None known to date.

Model Year: 2008

Everyone who has one loves the tractor for its versatility. Backhoe removes to receive 3 point hitch and hundreds of options of implements. Front bucket removes and steer skid loader attachments. Possibilities.... Picture shows up lifting a 700 pound scaffolding.

Pros: All.
Cons: No longer made by John Deere. Biggest USA mistake.

John Deere 110 TLB
Model Year: 2004

I purchased a John Deere 110 TLB with 380 hours on it in 2006. I have put almost 1000 hours on it and I love the machine. I have had a few issues, but overall I really like it. It has been a perfect fit for me. I added a thumb to the back hoe and it added about 30% more usefulness. About 2 years ago I got the 3 point hitch stuff and started to use it as a tractor. Wow, what a great thing. I have a chipper, rotary mower and box grader for attachments. It's a great machine, too bad they stopped making it. I'd be glad to share my issues and experience with anyone who cares.

Pros: Impresses much more than it disappoints.
Cons: Steering cylinder is not protected; roof does not keep water off you in the rain.

110TLB
Model Year: 2010

Fixed the narrow wheel base by adding snap on dual rear tires, fixed the grill before a stick gets to it, with expanded metal on inside of front bumper, added a JD thumb to backhoe, welded 3/8 chain hooks on front bucket. Pulls my 6" wood chipper fine. Backhoe very easy to take off and put back on. Now if I could just go faster in road gear I would be perfectly happy.

Pros: Starts, runs good, easy to operate, plenty of power on backhoe.
Cons: Narrow wheel base, poor grill, slow in 3 rd. road speed.

Dealer Experience and John Deere Tech Support
Model Year: 2004

Like my 110TLB. Didn't run when I bought it; needed a motor. I the process I needed to contact a dealer. Got John Deere's web site; my Dealer was a Pape' dealer in the central valley in Calif. 4 dealer were listed. None of these were any help! They told me that these tractor's were throw away tractor's not worth fixing! So that pissed me off to say the least. So contacted John Deere customer 3 times finally got to talk to someone with a brain! They informed me that PaPe is a servicing Dealer for these tractor's. Interesting that Pape didn't tell me that, but John Deere support sucks.

Pros: Right size, good power for it size, great for what I do!
Cons: John Deere support and ease of getting parts (not easy).

Used John Deere 110 TLB
Model Year: 2007

This tractor is a very handy. I have worked it very hard clearing land with 60 to 70 foot tall and 12" diameter trees. I use the backhoe to dig around the trees and push them over and a grapple bucket to stack them for burning. About 500 trees so far. It is amazing what you can do with this small tractor. Also used it on steep grades in AR ozarks. It is a little scary on slopes, because it sits high. Fluid in rear tires and using backhoe and stabilizers to balance helps, but one must be very careful.

Pros: Ease of use and can do big jobs.
Cons: It is a little scary on slopes, because it sits high. Fluid in rear tires and using backhoe and stabilizers to balance helps, but one must be very careful.

I have been very satisfied overall. Found John Deere parts to be very expensive unless you can find after market stuff. Very hard working small machine for its size.

Pros: Very strong little machine for its size.
Cons: Parts are very expensive.
