everyone on here that is talking about carrying their guns on their own home land needs to take a look at obama's stand on self defense. He voted against a law allowing you to have a handgun at home to defend yourself with when he was an illinois senator. The governor vetoed the bill after it passed and when it went up to override the veto obama voted against it. I will never vote for someone that does not think I should have the right to defend myself at home.

It's about one of our own getting hurt, not whether we have the right to carry a gun.

I do agree though.. with gemini.. both the issues you (happyman) mention go hand in hand.

I don't want to be stuck 'defending' myself with a telephone, calling 911, while someone is attacking me.. let alone on my own property. legal self defense is almost meaningless if you have been stripped of all implements with which to defend yourself.

And yes.. good luck / speedy recovery to the original poster.

Hope you heal up quickly. Moreso than your hand, is the wound of not feeling safe on your own property. I hope that one heals up too.

I've got several firearms in the house, but none of them "at the ready". I can't figure how to be safe about it with two three year olds. So for now, I've got a bat right at my bed that serves for patrol duty when we hear bump in the night. Not the best, but like others said...better than a rock or a stick.

It is of course your choice to step out or not.. however only one post even mentioned a political party.

i believe the 'spirit' of the other posts was that you should be both legally able to defend yourself, and legally able to posess implements of defense.. Having a right to defend yourself is virtually worthless if you have to go fistacuffs ever time an issue arises

This issue does need to be kept non political.. I agree.. however the basic issue of defense seems to be quite 'topical' to this particular message.. since one of our members was jumped and shot on his own property.. from a criminal that shouldn't even have been out and able to prowl around and prey on other in the first place.

Happyman does have a point.. we need to keep the overt politics out of the sub, per the rules.... I'm sure if we want to get political, thet PM or email will suffice... lets not get this important thread 'padlocked'.

That's why I have a gun safe in our bedroom. 6 digit code and I've got the Ruger 9MM in hand. Of course the alarm system and 3 rather larger dogs outside should give me a pre-warning to any intruder.

Thanks for your service to our country. I have a buddy that's an ex-marine. He was shot throught the hand in Vietnam. Hope all is well and you heal quickly. I'm also appalled with the sex offenders that are running around on the loose. We have 4 that live within 1 mile of our house. Well three now, one finally got life w/o parol for his 8th offense.

I have a push button safe that I can program the four digit combination. I bought this a few years ago and I think from Cabelas. It sure is not secure from a thief but it keeps the rugrats away from the pistols which is the point. I have also show the pistols to the kids when they have expressed interest so they have their curiousity satisfied. They have also gotten the safety lecture quite a few times now when it is appropriate. They also have had the safety/operation talk about the tractor. The oldest is eight and can't even reach the foot pedals. But she has asked and we go through the tractor operation. In a few years when she can reach the pedals she will have heard the talk a bunch of times. Hopefully it will have stuck.
