Newbie buying first tractor - need help

Take your time with the tractor selection, and be sure not to get one too small. There have been guys on here that wanted to upgrade shortly after buying one, the dealers told them, nope, no way to work out the trade-in, too new. Anyway, when time for a rotary cutter, look at heavy duty ones for those trees you have. My medium duty will cut down up to 2" trees. However, half the time I cut them down going backwards, but the steel back end of cutter was being bent by hitting trees and was pushed into cutter blades. So I wiah I had gone with a heavy duty cutter instead of medium.

Last thing about cutter through trees is if your ROPS have lights mounted the stick out to the side, trees can break them off in a hurry.

Well I was able to get by the Kubota dealer this afternoon as he is only 25 miles away. I went with the idea of testing out the L3400, which I did, but he had a Grand L3540 sitting nearby, and I think I fell in love again. Wow, is all I can say! I have to say he did warn me though. He quoted me $20,925 for the 3540 HST with FEL w/quick disconnect and R4 tires - thoughts?

I still want to get by the Mahindra and Montana dealers but being 45 and 70 miles away, that will have to wait until Saturday.

Charlie - I agree about getting a little more tractor than I think I need. I started out thinking that 25-30 Hp would probably be enough, but I expect this to be my first and last tractor purchase (being 51 years young) so I want to get it right.

BTW where are you in NE texas - I am in Marshall?

Sorry Teg, I was listing what the specs show as net hp - gross hp listed as 37 hp

Can anyone tell me what the difference is?

Sure, 2 hp

Actually, this will be a guess as to the difference between gross vs. net hp. Gross hp is measured when there is nothing at all hooked up to the engine. Net is after engine has been installed in the tractor and the drivetrain and everything else is hooked up. Anyone out there with the REAL answer?? :D

Depends on what they want to call it.. but could certaintly be the difference in the ps pump, alternator, and water pump, and cooling fan.. etc.

Anybody have any thoughts on the Kioti DK35SE vs. the Kubota GL 3540?

I don't own either one, but form the answers that have come on TBN from others questions, they seem to be quality machines.
