I find mine effective for at least two years, but that obviously depends upon local working conditions. Compressed air should only be used if you're able to blow from the inside out (same with a radiator). Otherwise you just drive the grit farther into the paper. Usually I just tap mine on a tire to shake off the big stuff, then look through the hole to see if sunlight still makes it through the paper. If it doesn't, the filter gets changed. It usually took over two years to get that dirty, so now I simply change them every other fall.How often have you changed your air filter? I have just been blowing mine out with compressed air.
