Hi all,

I had been looking for a PTO generator for a long while now and finally got serious now that winter is well under way. I was looking at the NorthStar 12k unit and the Voltmaster 12k unit. The Winco stuff was just a little more than I wanted to spend.

I found this site via ebay PTO Generators Tractor Driven by TEMCo - Tower Electric Motor Company and found out that their units (they don't have guages or plugs FYI) are Winco but branded by them. Temco has been around a long time.

To the point now... they have decided to close out these Temco branded units since the demand for them was not as high as they expected. I ended up with a 15k unit for $950 shipped. I will have a little more in it for gauges/plugs/breakers but the Winco units are over $2k so I figure it is a decent deal and wanted to share it here since I got some good info from this site and soundguy!

I have no idea if they want that price posted but didn't tell me not to share it with anyone :)

sounds like a good deal! do a write up on the installation once you get it set up.

I have thought about getting a pto driven generator, but not sure about the use of the tractor during the power outage. I have a small 6.5 KW gas generator that we got last December during the ice storm that left us without power for a week. But, we haven't used it since then.

Hard for me to justify spending more money on a generator system.

Sounds like an OK deal but why on earth would they expect to sell them like that, with no outlets or meters?
Might be worried about warranty issues, if you have to finish putting the thing together, if something blows are they gonna say you did something wrong?

I don't get it. Most people would pay the extra money to get a plug and play, most likely why they are closed out.
Do you know what type of voltage regulation they use? most that size are AVR, but could be capacitor.

I've got an IMD 10KW, wish I got the 15, for just a little more cost you get 50% more output.

Looks to me like they are designed to be hard mounted and hard wired...like for use on a barn or chicken house as a backup. All you need is a PTO shaft stuck out through a hole in the wall to run it when needed.

dont like that website.

smells fishy....

odd for a website not to list any other pages other than a main page. no contact info, no products, nothing.

google the 800 number listed and first response is to a hit for Suspicious 800 area code numbers.....

smells fishy

I thought so too, but they do have a main website, for what that is worth.

TEMCo Industrial Power - Three Phase Converter Division

and they also sale on the wonderful place called EBAY!

looking at the feedback

eBay Feedback Profile for temco_industrial_power

adds to the fishy smell. a ebay store thats over a year old but has less than 200 sales?

and the feedback items all seem to be roughly the same thing....

i mean seriously how many random people could possibly want a 5HP 3 Phase Converter Rotary, 1 To 3 Phase CNC mill? but they supposedly sold 5 of them to 5 different people in a weeks time? I mean perhaps i underestimate the market for 5hp rotary phase converters and all.....

in the days when you can artificially boost your ranking on search engines (so you show up at the top of google) things like boosting your ebay ranking etc are also known ploys.

Im not saying dont buy from them.... But from what ive seen, you wouldnt see me buying a product from them unless i was personally standing in the warehouse having it loaded into the back of my truck.

Looking at them.. i think they meant them to be hard installed.. like in a barn / milking room etc.. not a portable gen.. thus thay were plain with no plugs.. IE.. connect to a breaker box.. back tractor in.. or slide shaft thru wall.. etc..

just a guess..

Yeah, Kenny mentioned that, it makes sense, keeps the price down for those who need a genny for that application. I'm sure there is a demand.
You would still need a hertz or at least volt meter, but I guess you could have that wired into the system as well.
Could mount the meter outside so it would be visible from tractor, or have it inside and a remote throttle control, just another hole thru the wall and a rod or other linkage to adjust throttle.
