Hey OBED, were you able to think about the advice I given about closing off the bottom of the camper with hay or something to prevent cold air going under there ? I hope you are really not thinking about the torpedo heater you were thinking of for the black tank.
radioman, the advice about the hay bales sounds like it would work and is a great suggestion. However, we've been in this camper for most of the past 13 years and have never needed the hay bales until this year. This cold snap is supposed to come to a close Thursday so we'll just wait it out. Using the chamber pot has not been that unbearable for a few days. I'm not really sure what a torpedo heater is so I guess that means I'm not trying to use one to thaw the black tank.

Here are some pictures of the floor trusses that were taken last week before Thursday's snow. Not much has happened since. The Advantek subflooring will be installed tomorrow.

It's a kerosene forced air electric unit. I did the insulation thing around the bottom of my last truck when it gelled up and I melted the air dam off the front with mine..

The snow on Thursday made our street impassable. My wife drove down it Thursday afternoon but there would be no driving back up for a couple of days. Remember, our property is located along the top of a ridgeline. The street that runs to our property goes straight up taking the steepest route to the top of the ridge. While we could have parked our cars at the bottom of the street and walked to the camper, we decided to spend Thursday and Friday night at the in-laws' house. When we came back home on Saturday, the camper's water had frozen. We were quite bummed about having no water. Had we stayed at the camper we might have prevented the freezing of the water lines.

Using a hair drier, we thawed out the place where the water hose connects to the camper. We saw ice at this spot and suspected it might be the culprit. Fortunately that step worked and got us water to the kitchen sink. The pipes to the bathroom sink and shower were still frozen. Also, as we ran water into the kitchen sink to clear out the ice in the line, the sink started filling up. We think the drain line from the kitchen sink was frozen. Saturday night we ran the gas furnace hoping it might help thaw out some lines. Doing so thawed out the cold water line running to the shower but there was still no hot water to the bathroom. Sunday morning we found the kitchen sink had drained. Using a combination furnace, hair drier, and turning up the space heater in the basement we were able to get hot and cold water to the bathroom shower and sink. Having water is very nice. I suspect we won't be able to use the camper's toilet until Thursday or Friday.

If you make it back to the camper before it warms up, you may want to open the cupboards which the water lines run through.
Yes, we leave the cabinet doors in the kitchen and bathroom open so heat will get to the water pipes.

Wow, a lot has been added in the last 30 pages since I read this thread. Thanks for taking the time to keep this post updated, I don't know how you have the time.
Having designed and built my own house, there's a lot of good idea's in here. Wish I had some of these before I built. I think I'm going to go back and keep a record of some of the ideas for my next house
Great looking house. Glad to see the headers were added on the end walls. I still don't get the truss spacing though, I would have went 16" oc, and would have used a beam instead of load bearing wall on a slab. Hope the leveling works for you. I hate squeeky floors, and I have them. I glued and nailed my subfloor, wish I had screwed it. Whenever I need to replace carpet, I will go back and put in some screws.
Keep up the good work, will be interesting to see it all. Nice lot you have.

It dawned on me after I had posted, how long you have been living in the trailer and that you are probably familiar with your needs for the cold weather.

The joists are looking good. I'm also comfused by the 19.2" spacing. Although, I just did the math and it does work out for 8ft sheets. Must not be a 4ft offset between rows.

The trusses look nice. There is a certain amount of beauty in seeing them all ligned up when they are installed.

What did you use to shim them?

I'm unsure, but when looking at the pictures, I didn't see any diagnal bracing from the top of each truss, to the bottom of the one next to it. The pictures don't show between them, so I might not be seeing it. I've never heard of them not having diagnal bracing, so it's something that I'm curious about.

Will they block the space between the trusses before putting down the decking? or will that be left open and covered by the siding? I always block between so I have a solid support from the concrete for the walls to rest on.

Or did these things get done after the picture was taken, and before the decking was installed?
