I'm impressed. Thanks for posting this. Exactly what you'd hope to find on a forum like this.

Also note that if your part price is from JDParts, it could be as much as 30-40% high. Get a firm quotation from a competitive dealer.
Okay, now where does one find a dealer not using the full retail price!?! I've been to the three reasonably near me and they all charge the same price as JD Parts.

The only good thing I have to say about them charging retail is that I got a retail price trade-in on my GT242. I would have gotten half or less for it on eBay.

Ditto, my dealer does the same thing and pulls the price straight off JD Parts.

I will put another plug in for Arends Bros (shopgreendealer.com) here.
Talk to Jimmy.

I used to use a local JD dealer, but their prices got out of hand. I first
heard of the above dealer in IL on Ebay. They sold me most of the
JD stuff for this project and I would use them again.

.... the fuel gauge shakes like a duck crapping razor blades.

LOL!!!! I never heard that phrase before. I might have to use this one if the opportunity comes up.
:D

Well, it has been a while, but I got my electrical issues resolved. Hour
meter and temp guages work. The latter problem was a resistive instrument
panal main connector. This has been real bugger, as dirt gets injected
into it and there is no easy fix. To replace the connector would require
an all new wiring harness. I ended up pulling out a couple of the
individual female connectors, filing them, and re-inserting them into the
connector plug.

I need to wait until after the next few rain storms before I can get to
installing the loader. Stay tuned.

So is there anyway to gauge how much more power the engine has from the oversize pistons, if any?

There is, but I am not going to do it. It would take a dynamometer.

Realistically, if you were to drive your tractor as its compression got
lower and lower until you could barely start it, you would notice lower
power, versus new. It would be a gradual thing. Then if you rebuilt it,
the "new" tractor would seem MUCH more powerful. I don't have the
"before" experience with this machine.

One thing I can tell you: it will start in about one revolution of the
engine---without the intake heater on----at 45F. It has just become
my easiest-to-start tractor, versus all others I have owned/operated.

Mine starts that easy. The other few I've seen did too.

So is there a maximum theoretical power increase based on 0.020+ pistons? A 4300 is 32.2HP. Is 33HP about all you could expect or could it go as high as 35? Its just something that I've been wondering about, figuring I would need to rebuild mine someday...

The additional displacement I got was negligible, and the output would be
well within the statistical distribution of power outputs seen on new
engines. I could only get .25mm O/S pistons, BTW....no .50mm (.020)
pistons available. That's a tiny delta in volume.

It is interesting that I found a surplus 4400 engine in TX, from an engine
distributor. It was a JD new reject, dropped, I think, for $1700 plus
shipping. That would have gotten me some more juice. I decided rebuilding
was much more economical.
