Kubota has upgraded HST Fan Protection

Just managed to brake off all the fan blades on the hst fan. (very poor design!) Went to Kubota dealer and ordered the part for less than $7. Now they wouldn't give me an exact figure on how much it would cost to replace it. They said maybe an hour or two at $65 an hour. Not too bad, but tractor is less than six months old and 48 hours on her. Does anyone know how to replace one of these?

It might help if you mentioned what model you have. Different models have different procedures to change the fan.

Sorry, it is a Kubota BX2360.

The two general solutions I've read are 1) cut the new fan in two, epoxy it back together on the drive shaft and add screws for added security holding the two halves together (the cheap and easy way out), 2) loosen the engine mounts enough to be able to move the engine and drive shaft forward giving you enough room to slide the old fan off and new one on once the drive shaft is de-coupled from the HST. Don't know, but this approach might require removing the foot deck to get at things. If you do search, on replacing fan or hst fan, you should find lots of reading on what other members did to fix theirs.

For true protection, get yourself a bro-tek skidplate. Goodluck

Wow, I paid 7 bucks for the fan on my TZ25 and was able to replace it at home. About a one hour job.

I'm not too sure this is applicable to the Kubota issue.

As I said in a previous post, the skid plates look like great protection but I wonder about the air flow. Overheated hydraulic fluid breaks down much quicker than the recommended intervals would indicate and that can play havoc with pumps and seals. Some of the plates look like they would hold heat in rather than disperse it,

Sorry for the possibly dumb question but how would I know during normal operation that the hst oil is over heating. I've bought the bro-tek skid plates to be installed upon my return home, deciding I needed the fan protection for the type of work/terain i will be using my bx2660 in. But it will be used in Texas summer where the air temps get 100+ degrees at times. (Not sure if I'll spend long hours in that heat though!!)

I plan on taking mine off during the summer months when I have my MMM mounted. It may not be necessary, but I will feel better.

TripleR,
It was during the summer that I stripped the blades off mine. It a 3/8" stick about 3' long, slid up over the MMM & got deflected down into the HST fan. I heard a brrp & that was it. I saw the blades lying on the ground on my next pass. I build a guard for mine before I reinstalled a new fan. Nowhere near as good as the Bro-Tek. I'm planning on replacing mine with one.

Thanks for the heads up, I may have to go with Plan B; not sure what that will be, but it won't be running without protection.
