going to look at that 5th wheel flatbed trailer tomorrow.

any reason i should avoid this in favor of a goose neck?

i've seen one before... would save me getting the 260$ gooseneck adapter..

Gooseneck trailers are especially good if you're going off-road where the ground is not flat. The trailer frame will not twist since the hitch rotates around the ball. A fifth wheel will stay flat on the hitch and the trailer frame will twist when going over uneven ground. When loaded on the road or flat ground the fifth wheel will allow the trailer to be more stable since the trailer won't be flexing as much as the gooseneck will. You'll see more gooseneck flatbed and cattle trailers and fifth wheel travel trailers for these reasons. Flatbeds and cattle trailers are usually pulled through pastures and the travel trailers usually stay on the road.

Like stated before it will all depend where you drive it. If you are going off in the fields to get round bales I would stay away from a 5th wheel. Just does not allow enough articulation.

I'd hasve to say I'm gonna be on flat ground.. either roasd or pancake flat pasture.. I don't do much 'off roadin' besides.. my hauler truck is 2wd anyway.

looks like the 5th wheel may be a viable alternative for me. will go look at lunch.

Getting in a little late but nice truck. We have a F450 with 4.88's and it get ran all over @ 70 mph near 3,000 rpm and with it empty and loaded up +20,000 on the trailer only thing to remember it they don't stop on a dime, and in IL you have to have them saftey inspected but no idea about the laws in florida. 5th wheel vs gooseneck it all a personal choice and how much off road you do. Enjoy the truck and if you don't like it send it up here I love to have one that nice looking.

well, I went and looked at a lot of junk today.

the 5th wheel trailer was junk.. had some hokey electric over hyd brakes and all the wires were snatched out.. ramps ripepd off.

looked at 2 goosenecks that were cheap.. 2000 and 4000$ 2000$ one was tri axle.. and had not a single good board on it, and alot of bad plywood on top of that.. all mismatched tires and sizes

the 4000$ one looked kinda ok, but electric brakes are out of it.

on the way home stopped at a used tractor dealer I've bought from before, and he has a 7x24'gn on consignment from one of his customers up there. deck is weathered but solid.. metal looks good, ramps are good, tires are good.. cost is 3900$

I'm seriously considering this one... I think I can get 2 antiques on a 24' trailer..

guy will even deliver it to me if my gn adapter isn't in yet.

any opinions?

My only question would be does the size fit your needs? It looks like you lose some room with the ramps on the deck can you stand them up?

I would look at the tires and make sure they're in good shape. I do like the dual jack and wish I had that on mine.

You've got a high capacity truck that can handle a good size trailer. Since you haul some fair-sized tractors, I'd recommend at least a 28' dual wheel tandem trailer with a dovetail and folding ramps. Check Craigslist, there's usually some pretty decent trailers like that for not much more money.

The trailer you're looking at is pretty decent. I wouldn't want less than a 16" wheel and 7000" axles. Ground clearance looks pretty low and the rear can get hung up pretty easily. I'd look for a bigger gooseneck trailer with the deck over the wheels. Tractors load easy when the trailer has a dovetail.

You can probably can get a "deck over" 24 ft for just a few dollars more if you want to wait and see what shows up...most folks find the fenders are a hindrance, whereas a deck over trailer is just as wide but has 8 1/2 ft of deck space vice 7ft. That's what I settled on and I'm happy about it....BobG in VA

gonna search the trader mags and craigs list tonight and try to get an idea.

I looked at 2 new 30' units in the 7500$ range as well today. Wasn't really wanting to spend that though..
