Just don't shoot the tractor the way I shot my truck.

Don't ask.

You do realize that merely mentioning said action requires us to demand explanation of the event, don't you?

That's the ticket...if you have a gear transmission, you have to know how to use (and not abuse) a clutch.
I'm going to guess most gear tranny guys grew up with manual transmissions. There are probably a substantial number of TBNers who have never driven a manual shift car or truck, let alone a tractor. Most, except for the relatively few on TBN who are farmers, are strictly residential (as I am) and have little need for heavy pulling. Like most of those residential users, my tractor is primarily used for mowing lawn (brush cutting twice a year and operating a 3PH chipper a few times a year).
I like gears because I like gears...and I don't need any more reason then that.

Soundguy's post above hit's the nail right on the head...but around here, more stoners then drunks.

I had to look long and hard for a 5 speed Honda Accord during the high gas prices 2 years ago. There were only 2 in all of San Antonio, I got one. I am taking delivery of a gear tractor on Wednesday. Gotta say the shuttle shifter is pretty sweet.

When I was a teen I had a ford ranger that I didn't care about 'cause I rolled it on it's side on a country road one night, so I shot holes throught the bed on purpose to give it character:):confused2::p

I've been off this thread for a while...but, has it gotten to the point that the gear guys and the hydro guys are ready for a shoot out!!!!????
Ok, that does it. Ill go get the Mahindra started and elevate the arms. The 50# loads of grape shot are 100% effective to around 150 yds.

Roy,
I find that the majority of younger people are unused to manual trannies in vehicles today. I have switched all of my company vehicles to automatics because of this. So far it is working out , all automatics from 2002 on.

Curious though Roy, have you owned an ehydro tractor long enough to form an opinion of it? I found it very simple to get used to in less than an hour.

Nope, never owned on. Last time I actually "used" a hydro was 11-12 years ago on an 855 belonging to a buddy of mine (and before I bought my 670). Nice little tractor and one of the reasons I bought one.
He's got a 4300 or 4310 now (which I think is a great tractor!). I tried that out shortly after he bought it in 2002 (IIRC). We were discussing my newly purchased 4400 and his old 4300. That 4300 is still going strong and he and his family run it pretty hard.
After that, the next was a 3320 I tested out...but I had went to the dealer to try out a 3320 with the reverser. I preferred the reverser.

I'm just more of a gear guy. The majority of cars/trucks I've had in my life were manual transmissions.

I know this has been beat to death but can't help myself

I'd much rather replace a clutch than hydro

after i replaced my hydro reverser on my 2500 hour dozer I'll stick with gear
