I never figured how come they put asbestos in sheetrock (drywall) sold in the US market. This is about as dumb as you can get. Oh, I forgot about contaminating their own baby food? Ken Sweet

don't forget the sulfur compounds in the drywall too!

contaminated pet food.

lead paint on toys

lead , cadmium and other heavy metals in jewlry...

My experience boils down to this: The Chinese have the capabilities to mfgr good equipment, however, the German, American, Japanese, etc QC people need to stand over them 24/7. If you leave them to their own devices, they will shortcut quality for # units off the end of the line every time. Ken Sweet

This is the 100% truth.

There is an old saying with importing chinese parts. "Expect what you inspect."

I recently took a class for "lead safe work practices" as required by the EPA. The instructor is a fireman/EMT. As part of his fire department's emergency preparedness, they issued cell phone size radiation detectors. One of the fire fighters in his department had his detector go off at home. Turns out one leg of a steel table that was made in China had dangerous levels of radiation!

While there are some issues with Chinese tractors you must remember they are 1/3 the cost and the dealer is usually not around the corner like the major brands. Parts are easy to get but knowing how to figure out what is wrong with it may not be so easy so that is what sends people to the internet looking for help. This alone may make the numbers of issues look large but a good example is me and my uncle bought our tractors the same month in 2003. He got a 33ish HP JD. It has had the PTO go out twice and also a hydrostat issue but he did not go to a forum to get help, he called his JD dealer. Once they fixed the pto at his place. The other two times it had to be taken in. My tractor has broken also but I used my general knowledge of machinery and this site to figure out what was going on and to source parts.

Have something someone else fixes is for some. Having something you can fix yourself is for others like me. It all comes down to what you need and want.

If it was 1/3 the cost, I might consider it, for low cost items. I do buy some chinese tools for one time jobs.

Well now a U.S. manufacturer is being recalled because of Cadmium paint on Shrek glasses sold at Mc Donalds. The Chinese did not invent greed nor do they have a monopoly on it. Lets face it when you talk about putting stuff in baby food etc you are talking about greed not quality of manufacture -- difference is in China people caught doing that kind of thing end up as organ donors whereas in western society we either slap their wrists or run up large taxpayer bills proclaiming their right to live -- JMHO
