1520 water pump replacement issue?

changing water pump on 1520 Ford, and the replacement pump is off by a bunch as far as the cowling for the radiator, and there is a huge batch of slack in the v-belt. The footprint, however, is correct, the bolt holes are correct, etc. Is there a prescribed workaround other than ditching the cowling and getting a shorter belt? Thought I was losing my mind when the slack wouldn't take up with the alternator.

Any pics? If the water pump pulley and alternator pulley are lining up fine then I'd get a shorter belt. What has changed? do yo have smaller dia pulley for the new pump? is the pump body smaller but has the same foot print?

The cowling is part of the design of the cooling system - should be in place. Can you shim the fan in or out to make it work, maybe using part of the old pump or something sturdy? Stretching...

My guess is you have the incorrect pump. make sure you have the correct "1520" pump part as there may/are two model 1520's. One is pre 1999 and other is post 2000.

Ditto. 1520 and T1520. Different animals, but it is quite likely that the water pumps bolt up the same.
