Kubota Orange Paint?

I can find the van sickle orange all day down here in Arkansas where I work, but what about the Dark Gray, cant find any of that anywhere. anyone know of a good match for the Dark Gray on a new L3400

my local t.s.c store carries the kubota orange in the spray can as well as a quart an gallon .that way you can either brush or use an automotive type spray gun an apply it that way.i prefer to use the spray gun ,you get a smoother finish .

I also had no success in finding the correct paint at any of the big box stores, nor at the paint store. As you probably know, Kubota changed their orange paint in the last couple of years. The old orange is simply called 'Kubota Orange'. The new color is 'Kubuta Bright Orange'. And they are definitely different in shades of orange. The local TSC store had plenty of the older Kubota Orange, but no Kubota Bright Orange.

So, I started to order a quart of the new Kubota Bright Orange at the Kubota dealer and discovered that it was $38/quart! I passed on that, buying only 1 spray can of it for a measly $11/can.

I took the spray can directly to Sherwin Williams paint store to order a quart or two. After numerous attemps to match the color and content, they gave up. Said they simply COULD NOT blend a match. I inspected each batch that they came up with, and certainly agree that they couldn't.

Perhaps Kubota is trying to pull in all parts and supplies back in the distributors, for whatever reason...

My local TSC has had the paint and I have bought several cans, but now the slots are empty for the Kubota Orange.

Perhaps Kubota does not like for anybody to put their name (Kubota) on a product that is not licensed by Kubota. Threat of a lawsuit will result in that product being pulled from the market place. Thus, no more Kubota labeled paint except at a Kubota dealer.

There seems to be plenty of the original Kubota Orange around here, both in spray cans or otherwise. But not the Kubota Bright Orange - which is the color of the newer tractors.

I'm sure it won't be long before the Bright is readily available. Paint formulas are hard to keep a secret. SW said it wasn't the color that was difficult, but the high acrylic + ??? that was their problem. They'll get it worked out, I'm sure.

What year did Kubota switch to the new orange versus the old orange. I have a B2910 - would this be the old orange?

Bob, I don't know for sure what year... probably '08 or '09. But there's a noticible difference in the shades of orange. And the paint name on the later models is actually called Kubota Bright Orange. Others are called simply Kubota Orange.

I am not sure it is legal to paint a King Kutter with Kubota orange - If it is it really shouldn't be :laughing:

It must be legal because KingKutter's XB series is orange.:laughing:

Yes. It matches my BX25 exactly.

Previously I had purchased a can of Valspar "Autumn Crush", and that must be the old color, since it was noticeably different.

OK, Diez Nutz to correct my lack of previous experience I am posting this paint comment on this larger thread to heal my earlier splinter. Anyway besides my last week's sureal experience at TSC watching them remove the "New Kbota Orange" by Valspar cans right in front of me I had today stopped in at my local Lowe's to pick up a couple cans of their "Autumn Crush" also by Valspar, and wouldn't you know it all the cans of that I saw last week were gone including the bar code label where they were. The empty space was very obvious. This new Kubota Orange thing is really weird. Can you patent a color? I know Harley Davidson tried to patent their engine sound.

Well, anybody know if Van Sickle is still a viable alternative?

I asked an unanswered question earlier about can you order directly from them over the phone, or do you have to go through a distributor... anybody have experience with that, or should I just try to call them up to find out?

Well I went to another Lowe's today, and found the Autumn Crush #65077 Valspar spray paint. This location had 6 cans so I bought 4. I tested it against the one can of Valspar New Kbota Orange #5339-27 that I scooped up at TSC just before the clerk removed all the other cans the other day. I tested each color on a brace sprayed edge to edge that I removed from the bottom front edge of the 60" MMM on my new B2920, and could barely see a difference in color, and smell when freshly sprayed on surface was identical as far as I could tell. I compared the brace after painted against the mower deck and it looked the same, or for sure close enough for touch up work. My personal opinion is that Kubota just did not like the word "KBOTA" on the cans at TSC. Just thought I'd share. :thumbsup:

I was at Lowes about a month ago and one of the items I was going to buy was the Valspar orange paint. I got to the checkout and the lady tried 3 times to ring up the paint with no luck. I thought she just needed to verify I was over 18 (or whatever age you need to be to buy paint etc... now-a-days!)...
She finally looked closer to what the register was saying to her , and I about fell over when she said she can`t sell it due to a recall....I thought surely there`s a mistake , but at that point I was ready to get out of there as were the 6-8 people behind me

Came home and told the wife and she couldn`t believe it either! I just told her what I found here and we both got a good chuckle.


...and I had ALREADY looked @ TSC for the paint but they were ALL out...now I know why!

Went into TSC on Saturday and asked the salesperson what happened to the New Kubota Orange. He told me that they had to pull ALL orange paint due to some regulatory action (I think he said EPA)... supposedly there is a carcinogen in the orange colorings. Not wanting to argue with him, I didn't point out that there were still quarts and gallons of the "old" Kubota orange as well as AC orange still on their shelves. By the way, the AC orange is a pretty good match, especially if you are only painting implements and not trying to touch up spots on the tractor itself.
