florida is the same way.

I bet most of the states where the people actually have 'rights' to lawfully and vigorously defend themselves, you will see accounts of armed self defense. speaking of texas.. there ha ve some neat laws. a friend of mine used to live in a town that had an ordanance.. basically every household had to own a gun if allowed. breaking and entry crime statistics for that town were virtually 0 for the 4ys he lived there and kept track of it...

Kennesaw, Georgia is the same way...It has an ordinance requiring all citizens to have a firearm...Crime rate for burglary and home invasion is almost -0-

You have obviously never read the American Rifleman (NRA publication). Each month they post the crimes that were prevented by civilians with firearms. Typically our media wont do much in this area[/COLOR].

our left wing media really isnt the media of old, so I dont pay much attention to it at all anymore. There is much better places to get factual information these days

Repeat defenders? that sounds derogatory... how about repeat victoms?

was not mean to be derogatory...they may be victims but I was referring to store owners etc...that successfully defended their property with the use of a firearm...many stores in less than the best of neighborhoods are targeted repeatedly...

as for civilians shooting themselves...many of the ones you hear about are athletes or celebrities...

I have a Ruger LCP 380 and stoke it with the new Hornady loads. According to tests...this new load will favorably compare with a 9mm or 38+P....and penetrates quite well.

But, I dont use it for tractor carry as I dont want to sit on it, or holster an autoloader......there's too much dust and dirt for autoloaders....IMO. I have some wild dogs that frequent my land....so I like to carry for that purpose. (as well as wolves, bears and coyotes...but the main concern is the dogs).

Now, my wife and I will both carry revolvers when we are working alone. We keep them holstered but in a pouch on our ATV (my wife's) and I rigged a pistol holster that is attached to my ROPS for my tractor gun. This has proven to be quite safe and reliable. I have not had any issues with snagging it on brush, and it's readily available when needed. I have taken shots at some wild dogs (missed) and have taken a porky out with my 357 revolver (he was girdling my trees).

Biggest thing is.....that upon hearing a gunshot either of us will immediately check up on the other. We don't always hear a cell phone....so its another safety factor when working in the middle of nowhere.

At the end of the day, we place both guns in a quick-access gun safe, ready for the next time.

There's no doubt that could happen, but you'd probably be surprised at the number of murders and suicides that are committed with a .22.

Yes Sir, the silenced Ruger MKII (.22 cal) is the weapon of choice worldwide for covert government ops and hit men. For suicides, shotguns are what I always hear are used, not much research on that by me. Any single accurately placed bullet will kill. If one needs to pull the trigger more than once, then the first should not have been squeezed off.

I carry my MKII holstered just forward of my throttle with 4 extra clips. Cotton Mouths are on my hit list around the barn or house. When clearing near the Bayou, I wear the pistol as security for a possible Gator attack (they will attack near Dusk or Dawn, yup they are seen at Night regularly in the yard). A .410 Snake Charmer is the best tool, it is still on my wish list though.

Coyotes have no natural predator here and are out of control. The argument of not to controlling certain species, is well, call for an example: young children start going missing from being left unattended. Wild is Wild, my estate will not be, for my families and neighbors safety.

"jesnic", I will post pictures tonight. I like it, 0ut of the way and right handy.

:ashamed:

there's too much dust and dirt for autoloaders.....

easy fix for that. I used to carry a keltec P32 till I got my P3AT.. now the P32 is my tractor gun. when I go out, it lives in a ziplock baggie that it then stuffed into the soft holster where it rides fine as a boot holster or in the tool box wrapped in a shop rag.

0-dust or water issues.. and just as easilly available.

Uh yeah right.. er.. no.. actually.. you CAN read about these stories if you want to.

I read a mag that publishes 9-12 'self defense' articles per month. most of them are simple 1-2 paragraph blurbs gleaned from the police blotter section of a newspaper.. but they all have one thing in common.. a gun owner used his/her gun to defend themselves, defend another.

Another mag I read also does this, and in fact has published an account I sent in. way back many years ago I had just left for work and had forgot my lunch and turned around and went home.. something felt funny about the house so i took my .44mag anaconda in with me. I find a 6'6" intruder hiding in a bedroom. I hold him there , call police, they come, and find ANOTHER 6' intruder hiding in the closet of that same bedroom. luckily I did not enter the bedroom but stayed at the entrance to stand guard.

at 5'5" and 135# at the time.. I'm sure the Colt Anaconda I had in my hand is what made that day turn out ok for me... I guess neither of them wanted to attack a small armed home owner with a 44 magnum in hand ???

ps that mag was combat handguner I can provide year / volume issue # for verification if you desire. Nra mags also have a section in their mags with these type of stories. they ARE out there, for those that want to read about them.

Shotgun News had a story in the July 19, 2010 issue. It also referenced a Chicago Tribune story about the same shooting. Done by an 80 year old. Citizen with gun +1, criminal with gun -1. And in a city that feels you shouldn't have the right to defend yourself. So the stories are out there.

After Hurricane Andrew, we had no crime whatsoever in our area. And no police presence. No need when just about every house has multiple guns.

Case tractor in Ohio has a toolbox that is the perfect place to carry a handgun. Now that bears and coyotes are again on the rise, being at the farm requires something to be handy.

As for the use of a .22 for self defense. If the first 10 rounds of .22 jacketed don't do the job, the 16 rounds of .22 hollow points that follow will get me to the 12 gauge auto loaded with 1 oz and 1.25 oz hollow point slugs. Nothing says HELLO like a 12 ga racking a shell.;)

I am a hunter and enjoy my firearms but you might want check your local game laws. In Illinois it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a motorized vehicle (atvs, tractors, trucks & ect.) It is also illegal to chase or harass coyotes on an atv. Not saying I agree with said laws but maybe this warning will prevent a fine and weapon confiscation. I am sure that not all states have these type of laws on the books, my state can be odd at times, example our ex-governors may make your license plates :).
