I sure wish I left my stumps 6' tall. Plenty more to come tho.. Maybe if it won't pull the 10 inchers, it'll put enough stress to them that I can dig with my father's little BX on the other side and get them to go. Anything to not have to deal with the big 2wd on the muddy slope..

I like the dozer idea but I've had good luck burning out stumps. Drill multiple holes in the stump and top them off with diesel. Repeat a couple times a week for a month or two. When saturated, light it like a big candle, it will burn for a couple of days getting roots down to a foot or two below the surface.

I'll wait for the pictures. I'm not sure I understand how he's going to use this to pull stumps.

I have learned that "fresh" stumps can be easier to pull or dig then older stumps. The roots of fresh ones seem to be more pliable where as older stumps the roots are like rock and hard to break or dig through.

I'm just going to use it like a hydraulic come-along with 14 tons of force. Don't know if it'll work at all. If you see a piston flying over your house ..

14 Tons...about the force of a good log splitter. Maybe.....But, I gotta be shown. :D

If you could pierce under the stump and then use leverage from the hydraulics to pry it out ?? Or....maybe not. I dunno....they are a pistol.

Can you do this on fresh stumps? My gut says they probably have to dry out first to suck up the diesel.

Just ordered some grade 70 1/2" chain to use doubled. That hurt. At least it's made in the USA. It gets me to 22K# working load limit. I wonder how much safety factor they figure in..

Aw heck don't worry about the safety factor, just make sure you are sitting inside an uparmored vehicle when you operate it.

I used my electric winch to do about the same. Works swell.

I think you'll find anything over 6" is going to put up one heck of a fight.

Here's how I tackled mine.

Pic A,B,C, Multiple trunked stump I spent many hrs digging all the way around about 4' deep and cutting many large roots via chain saw.
On the final side/dig, I went extra deep and pushed it in the hole with my tractor while pulling with the winch on the other side to get it to this point.

Pic D, Back filling the under side. Plan was to tip it out on its own root ball.

Pic E, This was useless, as was the same attempt pulling with the tractor. Just no traction.
And nothing in range to tie to as an anchor for the winch. So,,,,,,I built a dead head.

Pic F, Old spare tire with chain and a hole.
Pic G, Old spare tire with chain in the hole.

Pic H, K, Rig it all up. Power comes from a plug off the rear of my truck.

Pic L, Standing straight up again, albeit slightly taller. Getting it to this point took just about all it had.

Pic M, Chain just going slack.

Pic N, Action shot.

Pic O, All done.
