I think you should try to fix it. That is what I would do.
Look at it this way. You have nothing to loose but you can gain some experience. The sketch of the bevels posted before would be a great way to start. Go at the edges with your grinder until it looks like Shade Tree Welder's sketch.
Take the pieces off the bush hog and see if you can weld them in a flat position for ease of welding position. I would do the first pass with 6011 and may be one or two more passes with 7018 as it was mentioned before.
After the 6011 clean out the slag (can be tough) with a wire wheel and then give it the 7018. This would be a good time to burn some of that 7018AC you were asking about.
If you want to be extra cautious grind the welds flush with the original surface and weld some long narrow plates (let's say 3/4"x2"x3/16") over it on both sides of the hole. But don't weld along the short side of the plates just along the long sides.
If you have the time to try this and feel like working on it, then why not. You will still have the $52 to spend if things don't work out. :drink:
