Ford 1710 Where to put block heater

I want to install a block heater, but not sure of the size or which freeze plug to pull. Any information on size and location is greatly appreciated.

Do you have the owner's manual? if not, look at the New Holland web site under 1710 Parts and you might be able to see where it's installed. The instruction sheet for the part should tell you where to install it and what the orientation of the element should be.

Having put them in before when you BEAT the frost plug out do it GENTLY.

Make certain you can get a frostplug style heater before you knock that plug out. E3NN8B152CA is no longer available from New Holland. We needed a heater for a 1710 last month and ended up putting a lower hose heater in it. The only frostplug heater i could find was listed for a single Cat application, was stocked only in a couple of warehouses nationwide, and was expensive. The diameter was a match, but I had no idea whether the element was going to fit or not.

It belonged to a customer and I haven't heard of any complaints. A properly maintained 1710 will start without a block heater down to well below zero F anyways.

I don't remember offhand what size it was. Measure the OD of the hose where you are likely to cut it and subtract 1/4" to 5/16" then round DOWN to the nearest 1/4". (or if you have the time, cut the hose, measure the I.D and order the heater). Err on the side of ordering a heater that may be a little small for the ID of the hose. Much easier to clamp a bigger hose down a little than stretch a small one.

Why not using magnetic block heater that can focus heat where you need or want. No modification of freeze plug will be necessary.

Mine is well maintained, but it sure didn't want to crank over yesterday in single digit temps. It is possible the battery is getting weak. I didn't check the voltage drop on it, but I think I will.
